Telkom false advertising

On week 3 now. Neither of my issues have been addressed.

I got a call at the beginning of this week from my HelloPeter post saying they would contact me within 3 days. That never happened.

Price is still incorrect on their website even though they have made other changes to it.

They addressed my hellopeter complaint after two and a half weeks, a week after it was sorted out. There is no communication at Telkom.

ASA, you tried to help them but they obviously don't care. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

I've sent one last PM to TelkomZA. The price on the site still shows R839, so now I'm wondering if that isn't the actual price and the call centre just didn't have the updated price.

I'll give them to the 1st to offer me the bundle for the advertised price otherwise I'm going to move over to WebAfrica who offer a very similar product (90GB + 180GB) for R824 pm. I really don't want to have to move my line from Telkom though but I will if I have to.

I also sent a pm to ranger suggesting that they should discontinue the DoGaming add-on, because it doesn't look like anyone is fixing it. Will see what happens.

Just an update.

Site still lists the Do Elite Plus bundle as R839. I am guessing this is the real price then.

Going to try and order again.

Excuse my ignorance but can you order a Telkom product online or is over the phone or in store the only way?

I've tried to be patient on this matter but it seems nobody is getting back to me.

I've been mislead with not one, but two ads with incorrect information this month.

1. Telkom Internet Do Elite Plus Bundle

This bundle is advertised on the website for R839, it is a 40Mbit VDSL line plus 100GB softcap account. When calling 10210 I was told the price was R970 (or close to it, cannot remember exact amount). After getting a hold of TelkomZA on the forums here he escalated it for me and a sales lady called me and said it's a mistake but will give me 50% off the first month. I told her no thanks and she assured me that the incorrect information on the website would be removed. It's still there and at the wrong price.

2. Telkom DoGaming add-on

I signed up for the DoGaming add-on basically only for Battle.net downloads which the ad says will not come off my cap. Due to the fact that I have a 40Mbit line I only realised that this was not working as advertised after about 6GB's of a WOW download. Again, I remained calm and contacted ranger here on the forums. He actually responded very quickly and said he would enable some logging on my account to see what was happening and get back to me. It has now been over a week and still no reply, I have followed up multiple times to our pm but there has been no response since the first reply. Last time I checked all battle.net traffic was still coming off my cap.

I'm now R50 and 6GB poorer and really don't see any luck getting that back knowing Telkom.

Now my question is, what should my next steps be (besides kicking TI to the curb)? Contacting the call center is a useless proposition and I've already contacted the most reliable people I can think of to address these matters (TelkomZA and ranger).

Do I lodge a complaint with the ASA?

TIA

I've been down the Do Gaming road. Unfortunately they have covered that part in their Terms and Conditions. Only the actual gameplay is free since Battle.net employs P2P for downloads and updates, it's not covered.

I have p2p disabled in Battle.net, so that's not the issue.

I have however given up trying to get any response back regarding this, ranger did contact me again earlier this month but has since gone silent again.

There's an option for that?

Anyway, I don't blame you. I hope you're not stuck in any contracts though. I made that mistake, but luckily reversed it just in time.

Yep, under Settings -> Game Install/Updates:

I've learned long ago to stay away from Telkom contracts :D

Good to know, thanks. :)

I went for the Smart Home Advanced bundle (4Mb) for R569. It would have worked out cheaper for me than using Connection.co.za if what they promised was what I got. Unfortunately P2P was unusable at any time of the day or night. I was told this was normal by a TK Internet Employee.

At first I thought I was alone, but now I'm seeing more and more complaints about this coming out of the woodwork.

Cancelling the contract was a little bittersweet for me, because even if I had disregarded the Telkom data, I would have still come out on top with the extra hardware and sims. I decided that signing a 24 month contract wasn't worth the risk. A lot can happen in 2 years.

Received a call a few minutes ago from Telkom lady confirming that the price is indeed R839. The amount of miscommunication at Telkom is really quite comical.

So are they going to rectify it for you and credit you the amount you were overbilled?

I never ordered the product because they wanted to charge me R979 when I phoned to order it and they wouldn't budge on the price. Will order it now then I don't have to move my line to another ISP.

*threadromancy*

I went and spent an hour at a Telkom store today to try fix my billing issue.

I was being incorrectly billed for over nine months even after countless attempt to fix the billing. I had visited the store, called call centre, and tried making manual disputes through the online accounts page.

I ended up having to CANCEL my previous product (Do Elite) and REAPPLY for the same product (Do Elite). I sat with the store agent and she showed me that the new product would be the same, BUT that I would be billed correctly. She tried changing the the incorrect portion on my bill, but then she showed me that this would not fix the amount owed. Only cancelling and reapplying would fix my billing issue.

Here's to hoping I receive the correct bill next month!

I had exactly this problem of paying separately for 40MB VDSL and 100GB cap at R1,124 from November 2014 instead of R839 as advertised. After raising unanswered queries I finally got to chat to a Telkom lady in March 2015 using their on-line agent thingy who said she would get the billing sorted out. She subsequently called me back to say that her manager had said the 839 price was only valid if I took out a 24 month contract.

I tried to get ASA involved as there is no mention of the contract requirement on their web pages but was unfortunately outside their reporting time for web-based advertising (even though the web page pricing had not changed at all).

Not false advertising but signed up for the do premium R699 got reference for 25 % discount also. Received telkom bill yesterday R1026.00.
That is after I repeatedly asked/told the guy its a package for deal R699.00 and they went and charged me separately for line, adsl and data There was some pro rata involved in the invoice but max about R50.00. Logged dispute and now its a waiting game and following up again.

The one hand really doesn't know what the other is doing yesterday I was told disputes 72 hours, today they sad its 15 days :wtf:

Can a telkom shop assist with sorting this out ?

I tried to get this as well, the agent I spoke to had no idea about this deal on a month to month [willing to consider 12 months]...absolutely frustrating!
Now when I checked on the telkom website...they have increased it from R839 to R999 [includes modem]
If you come right with R839 deal, please let me know.

More proof that TelkomZA is useless. And that ranger isn't a rep and shouldn't be contacted to assist with anything.
