Hi, so two telkom techies , over two weeks have come out to do adsl installation.

First guy said there is a card in dslam that needs repairs.
saw telkom busy the box for next 2 days.
Logged another installation request since i never heard from them again.

Today another techie phones and says his at the exchange and no ports are available i must apply for wcdma.

Done the relevant googling , but have felt short of the ff answer.

- Will that simcard work directly in an ipad or do you have to get the router / phone ?
- whats the top up gb rates or oob rate ?

No no no no no

Tell them to get stuffed. You want ADSL, which requires a physical cable connection to your house.

You CANNOT get an uncapped account on a FLLA service. And the data ain't cheap.

Strange thing is , we used to have line with adsl (which was our office ) which moved a month ago.
i stay behind the office , hence i required the new line .

Think i rather log another installation request

Is this for a business or residential account?

I've been using the wcdma service for about 4 months now. This after a two month wait for adsl installation that never happened and numerous calls.

I found myself in a situation where I knew I had no option but to pay more to get less.

With no other viable 3G option available in terms of cost, I signed up for wcdma, 24 month contract with 10 gigs. Cost was somewhere in the region of R400.

2 months later I added the additional 10 gigs of night time data for an additional R100. So all in all, I'm paying in excess of R500 for 20 gigs and a pseudo-voip service I hardly ever use. The contract provided a free wifi router. The beauty of the situation was that at the Telkom store, when I asked if this was a month-month service, the consultant confirmed that it was NOT a contract.

When I returned to apply for the additional 10 gigs, I was told I was on a contract. This was the 4th time I had returned to the store that month.

I was told by the store staff that I would need to call Telkom mobile to top up the account. This I did. I was then redirected to numerous departments, no one could explain to me how to top-up. Many of my calls were dropped as well. 45 mins of wasted time.

Eventually someone told me I couldn't top up the account, that the only thing I could do was to turn on out of bundle data. No thank you Telkom.

Ultimately I've had to adapt to the service. Every other 3G network in the area is less stable.

A break down of what I get:

Daytime and nightime downloads of between 30kb/s and 120kb/s.

I play LoL, daytime gaming pings of 380m-9000ms.

After 12pm, the ping stabilizes, most days and I'm able to play.

The above is the reality of my internet experience. Unless I move to a different area, or Telkom miraculously improves its infrastructure, I'm stuck with what I have.

I'm actually considering cancelling the service, regardless of the contract fee. Too disillusioned to put up a fight anymore.

@maxum sorry to hear that , telkom is frustrating.

I went in store and check out the wcdma , and didn't like it .
The gentlemen who helped me said , either 24 month with free device.
or month to month you buy device one month cancellation notice.

I pested telkom everyday filling the order web forms , and 3rd techie comes out boom , i got adsl.

According to last techie that came out :

Q ) How did you get the working port and other guys could not .

A ) We have targets for the day , ( server x amount of clients ) and the equipment at the exchange comes from china
these days , sometime you try ten ports and only 5 in there will work , so instead of waisting time on single called and trying to find a working port they leave to go and attend to other calls.

It;s gibrish to me , but thats what he told me.
