I am busy waiting for telkom to finish with my adsl install. The funny part is when I phoned them they said that ports are installd at the exchange. (just for reference I applied @ a telkom shop) They are now waiting on the design department to scedule an installation date. I told them that the guy at the store said that my area is a self instalation area, to which they answered that they will escalated the call to check if self instalation is possible.

after a week of waiting NOTHING has been done by the installation department. not even a note like: "we are busy checking" was attached to my call.

I then checked on the telkom website (http://www.telkom.co.za/common/contactus/index.html) to check if possibly they dont have a complaints line, LIKE MOST OF THE BIG COMAPNIES HAVE. Well to my surprise i checked and do DONT.

Most of the numbers there are for billing enquiries and not even one complaint line. This just reaffirmed that TELKOM IS ALL ABOUT - SHOW US THE MONEY WE DONT GIVE A RAT ABOUT YOU.

This I do believe that the ceo should adress and put a plan into action. I can phone ABSA with a complaint and they will at least ackowlegde my complaint within the hour, but not Telkom.

I think I need to investigate if I cant find Papi's phone number in some form or another just to give him some kind of grieve.

Other option is to start a telkom calss action and everyone pitched 10 bugs or something small to pay the lawyers. just to make the peoples voices heard.

I once asked 1023 for a telkom office number and was told they were unlisted - only national 086 numbers were available... I asked how they phone each other, I was told they don't!

I cam to the conclusion that they use skype since it's cheaper :D

Under Telkom's licence they are required to have a customer complaints procedure with contact numbers etc etc. Something similar is required under PAIA.

But this is Telkom we are talking about, they are above the law. You are welcome to complain to ICASA about it, but ja, good luck with that. It's a very sad state of affairs.

Welcome to the ADSL application procedure.

PSYth, just try installing it yourself anyway.
I was told by telkom that I had to wait till a technician could come and install my line, because self-install was only available in two places in Cape Town, and I couldnt do a self install because they needed to put ADSL lines into my place, and I could only do self install if I had previously had ADSL installed there before. Which I hadnt. I live in DBN by the way.
So when I got tired of waiting for the technician, I bought a modem/router with microfilter, a 1GB prepaid from Webafrica to test, and plugged everything in. Was up and surfing online within 30 mins. The technician came in 4 days later after I had been happily using my ADSL with no problems. He made a 3 min phone call, made me sign a paper to say it was complete, and walked out. Where were these "ADSL lines" the telkom lady so blatantly lied to me about that needed to be installed? Self-Install is a big word for what you have to do. They should call it "Plug your adsl modem in yourself instead of paying R440 for something a moron could do".

But on a positive side, telkom did have my line ready 3 weeks earlier than I was originally told. I only waited 3 and a half weeks. I was impressed with them for that. I must be one in a million. Im counting my blessings :)

The other day I phoned Telkom to make an enquiry about my self-installation and was told my ADSL LINE IS NOT CONNECTED/INSTALLED. Well how the hell am I downloading at 40kb/s then?
