Telkom Gives 'Guaranteed' Minimum ADSL Speeds

The only advantage I can see from this is that if your line goes down they won't be providing you with the "minimum speed", or is that exempt too?

I've been getting maximum speeds of 86kpbs on my so called 384k line. It doesn't always go that low, but it's been happening more and more. Maybe I should get ISDN2a it will give me a constant 128k line.

And if they don't meet these minimums?

It sounds from the article like all they're guaranteeing is sync speed with the DSLAM so as long as you've got that you can't complain. Basically its a joke.

From the article these minimum speeds appear to apply only to the physical line.

Until an ISP guarantees me a proper committed information rate (CIR) I remain unimpressed.

Since SA is in the midst of its renaming phase can we re-title ICASA to Lack of Clarity or LOC for short?

Toolkom making guarantees?! whaaeahaha :D This is funny, coz they always makes promises and "Guarantees" but we never see the results, maybe a few years later yes.. This kinda smells like the goverment..

My dsl speed is 315+-kbps. Im happy with that, but not the cap and the IP change!!!!!!

And supposing they don't even meet that? Does ICASA summon ninja's from the depths of hell to rain death down upon Telkom's first born?

Would they even get a slap on the wrist?

Telkom Gives 'Guaranteed' Minimum ADSL Speeds

BOLLOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My download from HP on a 512K ADSL line is running at a spliffy 2.3 K/sec

Plug my Vodacom3G card in and I am running the very same download from the same site at 120-150K/sec

TELKOM guarantees, please tell me another one.

So what, must I complain to TELKOM now, do I get reimbursed for k@K service and poor performance. rofl

I'ts easy for telkom to Gaurantee the minimum speed, they've kind of been doing it all along, if you can't get the miminum speed on your line, they will simply remove your ADSL service and let you know that your line/exchange can not support you.

So don't look at this as a win it's telkoms way of making it legal for them to get rid of ADSL lines that have high support costs due to speed and connection complaints.

HAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHA WHAT A JOKE

Whats the point if it syncs at 4096 and cant even guarantee 25% of that in download speed. In most cases I would be lucky to get 10% of my sync speed, unless I using a download manager, then I can get full speed but only because it opens like 20 connections.

Its like having a ferrari but electronically limited to 40kph

They will tell you that your slow download speed is a value-added service free of charge so that you don't use your cap too quickly.

My response will be a value added kick to their nuts.

The ADSL service I subscribe to and pay for is far superior to the one that I actually get.

But as a consumer in a monopolistic environment I have no recourse, no choice, no chance whatsoever of anything being done about it.
