Telkom grows Internet subscribers

^ LLU won't reduce Telkom Internet subscription numbers at all - on the contrary it might actually increase them. This number is the number of people who have Telkom as an ISP - not the number of people who have a Telkom account and are on the internet.

Telkom Internet has increased its numbers because they offer a good product. LLU will trigger major changes within the industry and will see Telkom leasing out a large number of lines to other ISPs but remember the same wholesale access rules apply to everybody in the game so assuming that our alternate operators (ISPs) each bring our a naked ADSL product using a network built from Telkom facilities they cannot refuse to provide Telkom with an IPConnect-like service access to their network for Telkom products. This would mean that Telkom Internet would be able to sit as a secondary ISP on the other guys networks - so LLU should produce options of R1000 all inclusive (no line rental) 15Mbs ADSL uncapped - but shaped - and TI will be able to sell their 5, 10 and 20 Gb AllAccess products which are really really good backups. What will also happen is that with the shoe being on the other foot the incentive to reduce the IPConnect charges (and their corollaries with other networks) arises and what is more the case for settlement free peering becomes stronger.

@Paul,fully agree with you, was just pointing out the anomaly with regards to Telkom numbers. Now considering that they are reluctant to be competitive then with the advent of LLU they would be blown out of the water and their past growth figure(s) would remain just that,an....anomaly.:D
