They say a lot of things about pricing in the document, but I get the feeling it hasn't quite sunk in yet that if Telkom wants 1 000 000 broadband customers by 2010 it will HAVE to drop prices. The trend overseas is not only to give customers more, but more for LESS!

Price is the main stumbling block. To be honest the ISP charges are not too bad bearing in mind where ZA is on the internet map but the last mile prices are outrageous. paying all that extra for a piece of copper thats been sitting in the ground for the last 40 years and will continue to sit there if I use it or not

Has anyone ever thought of this. Maybe the problem is the rollout. UK has cheap broadband because there's lots of people using it and sharing the same equipment. With telkom rolling out 1 line per day it's no wonder they are whining that equipment is expensive, there's not enough users to pay for it.

All that means is that i hit my cap even faster than before. As it is I do more than their measly 3gb a day on my IS account already. So quite frankly.. The can shove their rhetoric where the sun don't shine.
Offer larger caps and lower prices and maybe then you'll get more than 2 new adsl users a day you daft morons

What makes me laugh about this, is the stupid idea of "self install"
It basically admits the obvious - Telkom are incapable of meeting the demand, so they try to alleviate that by inventing some stupid scheme called "self install"
Also the idea of "bumping up speed and keeping the same cost" is all well and good, if the exchanges can handle the extra speed. Not all customers would benefit, those further away from an exchange would not be able to go above a certain speed regardless.
All of this stalling by Telkom to start the obvious unbundling of the local loop will do more harm than good, no matter what they say they are doing. Until Telkom are forced to allow other companies to access thier cables, South Africa will continue to fall further behind in broadband uptake, at the risk of falling further behind economically.

Well..talking about dates..will that work? the last date telkom gave was 'a price reduction announcement by end of March'. Well..they havent done anything yet. March 2066 maybe. Remember: seeing is believing, dont believe everything u hear especially if it comes from Telkom.Crummy_Gummy said:
