Telkom improves their ADSL KPIs

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

These KPI's mean nothing to the users of the following exchanges that are out of capacity:
Telkom DSLAM/Exchange/Backhaul are out of capacity see:

ADSL-degrades-during-night

Tollgate (Durban)

Why don't Telkom publish back-haul statistics for individual exchanges?

Telkom don't invest and upgrade the "last mile", so as more users get ADSL,
we all suffer.

They are "hiding" bad performing exchanges in the averages.

+1

Rosettenville exchange is also out of capacity.
I suspect this problem is quite widespread.

I am downgrading to 1 Meg due to the exchange being overloaded. You network is so forked in my area that I am seriously considering iburst again if they bring out slightly better products this month.

So please keep your BS to yourself.

Plus add Honeydew Ridge to that list. I'm also downgrading to 1mb with the hope that things will be better. But with a ping of 1000 to games.saix.net with a TelkomSA account, well that's just pathetic.

I don't believe these statistics. Not one bit.

In fact I wish MyBroadband would do a story on all of us who have been struggling for months to get proper speeds and latency. I can get a whole group of unhappy Telkom adsl customers here in Honeydew Ridge. And we are gatvol. Yet there's no alternative and ICASA doesn't answer when contacting them.

Make adsl cheaper already! Hate being stuck in this country with its crappy internet...

Publishing ADSL Stats is all fine and dandy, but why doesn't ICASA take up the people who publish (or don't in most cases) and actually check to verify what they are publishing is correct?

I would believe as a regulator they would act as "Auditors" for the publishing of stats etc, like company financials to ensure that what the company promises is what they deliver or at the very least, what they publish is correct and accurate?

All those statistics mean diddlysh*t! we have had intermittent ADSL for weeks. Fortunately we also have IBurst which always works but is sooooooo slooooowww! I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I live in Bryanston and run a business from here but our connections are just awful. Any suggestions oither than ADSL (4MB) or IBurst?

downgrading to 1 meg is no different for the backhaul, if congested, 1 meg will display similar congestion. there is bandwidth, it just has to be managed properly providing correct interfaces are installed, Telkom does upgrade when reports indicate congestion. Telkom does up configs on IMAXs easily as on MetroLAN, DSLAMs/UMCs are not so easy, as the interfaces can only accomodate multiple 2 meg links per rack. Also if you in a business/residential area, peak usage can be an issue, enquire from local techs if your port can't be moved to other DSLAMS/IMAXs if available, some exchanges have both. It must be all those uncapped downloaders increasing bandwidth utilisation.

PM your ADSL number, will get someone in Telkom to test and feedback what is happening
