If you are a telkom do broadband 1 subscriber like myself, they have reduced your bandwidth for the same monthly fee !! which means it will most likely run out sooner than expected...

Do broadband users loose out on bandwidth, while do broadband 2 and higher get an extra gig or more on there bandwidth, orginally all do broadband users were to get fair increase like stated earlier this year, but they have moved the goal posts. So why is this, the reason is Internet access cost the most as compared with the Entire planet and one could say that Internet users have a better deal in China even when having the great firewall system, they still have unrestricted bandwidth, and the majority of south Kaminians(Africans) use do broadband 1 as it is the most affordable.

secondly telkom lies in its advertising, they say "Do more, Do Movies, Do Music.." where it should be " Do a bit of this and a bit of that , then we tread on your head softly".

I recon all do broadband one users should phone up Telkom and voice there opinions.. If no one speaks up they would continue to wallow in there greed.

Lotsa Love

Here is a copy of my report today , which I was capped last night and came 4 hours later...

The problem is that they reduced the DoBroadband 1 bandwidth from 1500MB to 1000 MB, ie by a third. Now technically they can argue that the additional 500MB was simply a free gift and they were not obliged to carry on giving it, but from a marketing point of view, it is bad to publicize your generosity to some customers (Level 2 and 3) while secretly taking away from others (Level 1).

I don't like Telkom's tactics so I won't upgrade my DoBroadband 1 package so I am hoping that Axxess comes to the party and reduces their price for 3GB.

So do the 1 gig cap guys get upgraded to 2gigs? or is it just the guys with the 2gigs upwards get upgraded?

1 Gig users get 1 gig. (No upgrade)
2 Gig users get 3.
3 Gig users get 5.
All upgrades have already taken place.

thanks for that, thats what I saw but my nieghbor who lives up the road said his got upgraded to 2 gigs.... anyway, looks like I'll be forking out another R60 for a gig come the 17th, lol

luckily my work acess is 16gigs!

firstly I don't think it's a good thing pasting your username in a forum. Secondly they always sold it as 1 GB Telkom Internet account... not as 1.5 allthough you got it. Thirdly if you think about it... what does 1 GB cost... lets say R40, then plus 10 GB local which I think is about mmmm R8 so all and all they give you about R120 of value for R79... my opinion, people were beginning to utilise their local bandwtidh fully and they started to feel a lost in revenue. I think the reason why the 2 GB became 3 GB and 3 GB became 5 GB was that their bandwitdh overseling numbers as well as subscriber numbers are making it possible to maintain good profit on those packages.

This is just my opinion...

Just to add my 2 cents if you upgrade your 1 gig to a 3 gig you getting 2 gigs for 70 bucks ;)

But you are tied into a 24-month contract.

Cost of 384 line = R152 p.m
Cost of 3GB package = R258
Therefore bandwidth cost = R35.33/GB.

So the question is, will there be a substantial decrease in cost of bandwidth soon (in terms of value rather than absolute cost)?

My view is that much better deals will begin to surface over the next 6 to 12 months.

If the prices drop then the contract users receive either a price reduction or (most likely) increased benefits at the existing price.

LOL! Tell that to Telkom's Do Broadband 1 customers.

Cap usage

TelkomSA.net implemented capping rules, u will be capped as u reach ur cap limit as of September 2009, previously cap implementation rules were not strictly adhered to for low usage cap users, hence many downloaders got freebies. Also note previous rule applied by exchange cap thresholds.

The 24 month contract apply to line and link, I think not the ISP.
Advantage of 24 mnth is the guarantee of router, replacement if faulty anytime within that period.

I agree I think they will change u to a 3gig while still on existing contract... so if you want u can upgrade afaik
