Hoping someone can answer my question here:
I schedule my downloads (mostly usenet) between 00:00 - 07:00 so that its part of night surfer, as defined by Telkom. Will these DL's count towards my usage even if uncapped? Don't want to be shaped later in the month and not use it for gaming, skype etc.

No, it doesn't affect the "usage bar."
ok great thank you - so me doing 80gb of usenet downloads between those times this month so far, would not count against me?

Definitely not. For example: I pulled about 90 Gb during nightsurfer up until about the 13th of this month and the usage tracker barely moved. Then I pulled a single gig during the day from usenet and the usage tracker shot up three-fold. Nightsurfer, between midnight and 7 am, the usage tracker goes to sleep like everyone else

Not quite correct...
Night Surfer starts at 00h00 and you can start your downloads and it will begin, but it will be shaped.
At 0100 the service becomes unshaped and the downloads will then fly at almost full line speed until 07h00.
The degree of shaping between 00h00 and 01h00 will depend on network usage at that time.

Is this info about the shaper relaxing at 1AM available anywhere on Telkom's website?

You'll have to read back for ranger's post. Or do a search on all ranger's posts in the last two weeks and find it.
In reality, no downloads will normally occur until after 1am, since the shaper is very severe here. 0kb/s all day AND on weekends (which are treated the same as business days)Not quite correct...

Sorry but I must disagree with you. You'll have to preface that with "My experience is that, in reality, ....".
My experience is that it varies between 25-50% of line speed between 00h00 and 01h00.

The rider here has to be, as the Americans like to say: "Your mileage may vary".
This "telkom fanboi" has no problems with downloads at any time, be they http or nntp. Torrents outside of nightsurfer are shaped to death I admit. Schedule them for Night time. Problem solved.
But I guess that I'm just one of the lucky ones.
