Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Interesting routing - my IPs:

secondary DNS address 196.43.38.190
primary DNS address 196.43.54.190
remote IP address 105.227.2.xxx
local IP address 105.184.121.xxx

Primary DNS Server: 196.43.54.190
Secondary DNS Server: 196.43.38.190
IP address: 105.224.141.xxx

... maybe it's the IP address that controls the shaping as the routing seems to be same once it leaves PE - but I'm no expert :)
Not shaping but probably congestion on a local link (Parsons Hill exchange to either Sidwell or Linton Grange). If there was a fault it would impact my Night Surfer downloads, which flies at the moment.

... and that's what odd, my nightsurfer speed has been terrible recently making a mockery of scheduling my downloads.

Hopefully ranger and the team have been tinkering this weekend and things will get back to normal.

Some info ... use, don't use it, etc.

Telkom's (as is all) exchange hierarchy is concentrator, digital secondary switching unit (DSSU) and then digital primary switching unit (DPSU). This is primarily for voice traffic. The main data equipment in each region that is used to route data traffic is normally located in the same building as the DPSU.

Your concentrator (exchange 360) is in the same building as the DSSU and DPSU known as Linton Grange. So you can imagine that the links between them is extremely short.

My exchange and DSSU is Parsons Hill and routes to the Linton Grange DPSU in order to "break out". My data routes to either Linton Grange or Sidwell (known as Donkin DPSU).

That's why I suspect that my issue is a local link being borked!

All info welcome :)

I guess I'm fortunate being on the Linton Grange exchange as my service is usually stellar it's just P2P that's screwy atm - just look at the graph:

Traffic Graph.jpg

... lousy speeds until 07:00 this morning when nightsurfer ended, since then everything's fine :wtf: Maybe I've shifted into an alternate universe :D

Check under the "peers" option for the torrent you want info on (most torrent clients make this available).

A fully seeded torrent means that all portions are available (100%) and being seeded to you:
Fully seeded.png

A poorly seeded torrent means that although all portions might be available they are not being seeded to you (many reasons for this), also the seeds that are available might not have all the portions:

... simplistic answer, hope it helps.

Everything seems slow at the moment, pages take ages to load.

Anyone in KZN or elsewhere experiencing the same?

Yes!!

Didn't know which account to switch to around 5am when i woke up to do some exercise :o and i couldn't stream some tunes so i switched to an old playlist on the phone

I do believe it wasn't only Ti that was affected...

The DSTV Catch Up from the DSTV desktop player is crawling on a softcap account in KZN. Its basically dead @ 12KB/s MAX.

The server is a mweb hosted server @ 197.80.252.132

I switched to a IS based free account and its pulling the content @ 1.4MB/s but the Telkom account is refusing to even like download anything.

We have one change that is still outstanding related to this that should have gone in on Thursday or Friday morning, but there were too many other issues that came up. We'll see if operations is willing to accommodate this change on Tuesday or Wednesday morning (there are other changes tomorrow morning so we normally have to give the call centre a day or two to provide feedback from customers if something got worse).
OK I'll check again on Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks

We are working on a number of initiatives to workaround the SAIX-MWEB peering issue.

There is a problem with google services. Youtube and google are completely dead for me. Is anyone else having this issue. On another account, it works well.

No offence, but constantly reporting that your service is fine is not helping us.

...

I dont want to cause an argument but i must say this is rather hypocritical coming from you. You keep telling us how you're entitled to report your feedback (which is usually negative). MickeyD is equally entitled to report his feedback in that case.

Digitalp , there is a problem with google services though. Read back a few pages, Telkom is aware of the problem and hoping a fix will go through on Tuesday or Wednesday.
