Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

How can they manage you for using Afrihost data?
That's a bit silly.

Besides, it is none of their business either how much data you buy and use ftom other ISP

Of course. The guy was lying (about the account being managed), as I found out an hour or two later.

I knew he was pulling the Afrihost story out of his ass, although he was correct about the usage. Absolutely ****ing crazy. I hope that guy gets anal boils.

His tone was also quite unbelievable - The man was actually lecturing me for using too much data.

I don't know if this is possible but could Telkom (not TI) be throttling line speed based on usage irrespective of ISP to relieve exchange congestion?

Feel free to mock or add more knowledgeable input :)

They don't know what, they do whoever know how much.
I did not know that they could see how much, but in my frequent fights with them, they would always refer to AH and also to MWeb when I ran a trial account about year ago.
So they definitely can see whatever ISP you tried and does not matter if the info was completed in the router or dialed from the desktop.

Telkom's stance on throttling is very strange. When I was on the phone with them one of the guys said I was being managed and said part of the reason was 8 gigs I had downloaded on Afrihost.

:wtf:
They can see you are using a different ISP if they check.

Presumably Telkom manages the line when you are on AH, so they can ask AH if they are shaping you in case you put the blame on Telkom for it.

Someone posted the other day that a techie told him that individual exchanges are some time limited to a certain speed. I think it was in the context of congested exchanges, but I obviously can't vouch if this is indeed true.
I think it was also said it was done in the exchanges itself, so not sure if this is correct.

Surely that is illegal?

Huh?

Why the hell would anyone blame ISP A for something while they are using ISP B?

The claim on their side was that I was being managed as I had used too much data, and the guy kept on saying that '8 gigs in one night is against the rules' (shame, poor Afrihost, by the way - I forgot I had loaded my free gig, and it just kept going and going the whole night), and kept referencing the Afrihost bandwidth as adding to their total.

I'm going to download software to track my data usage, I really doubt that I did a total of 179.51 gig in 13 bloody days with their speeds. That's roughly 60 gig a day!

By who's opinion is 8 gigs in 1 night "against the rules" that's less than my average amount a night. I would've sworn that pr1ck so badly!

This is fairly accurate of my usage so far, this is very close to what my SABNZB also says i've used for the month.

This is after the moron at the call centre told me I'd used too much...

10 MB Uncapped:

TI Tracker - TI Tracker.jpg

SAIX userstats - userstats saix.jpg

No real problems other than QoS seems variable after 17:00, browsing suffers at the expense of iPlayer & torrents which wasn't the case before March.

I can't use my 4mb to stream on anything other than a single pc.
If I try to stream on 2 machines everything just falls to pieces and buffers.
That is when it works.
This week has been mostly a pain resulting in me using Afrihost.
