Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I have a 2mb line with telkom. I usually use about 130-140 gigs per month. But Telkom kept throttling me at +-110 gigs ( I don't always download during 12-7am). So I have upgraded to 4mb uncapped data with my 2mb line, and now I'm throttled again at 170gigs (including the 12-7am downloads) :(

Does that sound right?

You cannot get 4Mbps data account on a 2Mbps line, they [Ti] won't allow that. The system as far as i was told has to correspond [except cases you got a 6Mbps line and 10Mbps data account]. I stand corrected though

I can't see this being a big contributor but also can't rule it out, the 12-[7am] extension [extra hour] only applies 1st September which is from Monday.

Otherwise try to schedule atleast 5 mins after 12 at 12:05 & 5 mins before 5:55am until September 1st then end at 6:55am.

Mines are currently set at 12:01 & 5:59:50 :p and am still in the green :) though 2Mbps

No wonder the Telkom consultant told me it can't be done and I insisted he just do it because you are able to have a 2mb line and 4mb data account with another ISP. Perhaps I'm still on 2mb data then.

What's your usage like if I may ask?

@venom - 91GB combined. Not high because am switching between another account but i will be going full throttle this weekend :p.

Last month was a mix as towards end of the month, i became aware fully of the FUP changes :).

Yeah, that is pretty good. I don't see my usage going too high over the next few months, got alot of work to do and studies  . More time for Chonday though so can catchup on popular videos :p.

:p Well I suppose I'll just be grateful that I got to 170gb then...

Grateful ? You should be showering Telkom with rose petals for getting that kind of usage, considering what us Durbanites have been going through over the past few months :)

@shanezn - LOL!! I think we are in for a treat when they sort the IPC issue out, i cannot wait :). Too bad we can't hook straight into the cable when we need a speed boast that is in Mtunzini :D. ;)

Ok so it seems like it's worse than I thought. I may be throttled on my dsl line. Is this normal? I have tried Axxess, Web Africa and Afrihost free accounts and cannot do more than 512k on a 2mb line.

Has anyone had this experience?

Edit:

Syncing at 608Kbps

No. That's not throttling as it's ISP dependent. The fact that you are experiencing this across several different ISP accounts tells me you have other issues.

^ This. That might be a line issue. Best get a hold of Telkom (10210) and ask them to test your line.

Something strange... I don't normally DL during the day but seeing that it's month end and my usage bar is still green, I took a chance!! 4Mbps line...

I HATE that you have such a great experience with TI while us Durbanites are sailing up S#it creek with their service.
It's not just you Durbanites, looks like all of KZN is stuffed. I'll follow up with rpm to see if he has queried it with TI for an official comment. (no disrespect to ranger)

/let me not say anymore. Those of you who saw my post or got a notification via mail, hush for now.

/no conspiracy, just a general comment on performance this weekend.

I have been trying to get an official answer we can provide regarding KZN. Unfortunately there are some complications in the one outstanding aspect for KZN due to procurement processes, which are taking longer due to "Fit for the Future".

(We've been really busy preparing for some hardware migrations we have just completed for Cape Town and Gauteng, had no time to read new posts in this thread for thr past week).

Welcome back ranger-san. :)

While not the answer many were waiting for, it will be good enough until we are "Fit for the future" :) ............so hopefully soon. ;)

It seems the procurement issues were finally resolved on Friday, and we should be able to address the problem immediately. There will be some temporary impact for about 20 minutes after the implementation.

(There are two other initiatives under way to bring improvements to Durban, one is already implemented in Gauteng, the other is currently being worked on for all regions, but Cape Town is a bit further along and Gauteng is lagging by a gew days)
