Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Well if that is the case then the uncapped account is a better deal I guess however there are people that posted in this thread that it does effect shaping and throttling...

It's a very good deal but it might not suite everybody, some people might have higher daytime requirements (07:00- 00:00) where the capped data would be insufficient.

My usage so far on 4 Meg line,
the 2 last weeks was downloading torrents for my Son and not sheduling afterhours ,but mostly I do 12to6
runout of stuff to Download :-)

Going to Format my PC coz of a Disk read error. Still on Vista ;-(2014-08-31.jpg2014-08-31_.jpg

NOT Throttled

It seems the procurement issues were finally resolved on Friday, and we should be able to address the problem immediately. There will be some temporary impact for about 20 minutes after the implementation.

Ok thanks, did not think you meant this very minute.

Will report back.

I did say immediately, which in IT/Telecoms means about one to two hours (logging of changes, approvals etc.).

Makes sense. I was just thinking about it. I see some users that got cut off after x amount of usage.

No one is beung cut off. What changed (un, what was it, June?), is that the enforcement of the FUP is no longer 'silently' applied, users are redirected to a page informing them that they are in breach and will be managed. If the account owner or authorised user logs in after clicking a link on the redirect, and clicks the acknowledge button, they continue accessing the internet as they would have, without having known they were managed, before this change.

Why was this done? There were a lot of line faults being logged because uncapped users who didn't read Ts&Cs or the fair usage policy, in many cases resulting in callouts etc.

Since many users don't check the tracker, and notifications aren't currently available, this wsd the

I do not have Uncapped premium plus like you but I think downloading 500GB on it will mean that you will be throttled?

Probably only if you downloaded everything outside nughtsurfer time.

If not your daytime torrents are throttled maybe? Will your still get full speed on your 10Mbps line if you downloaded 500GB @ full speed during night surfer times on your account?

Yes.

So I think with the new uncapped AUP that is being enforced it might not be the best option to take compared to softcap.

This is just a VERY rough comparison to see how the uncapped accounts stack up to softcap accounts. I think they might be enforcing the rules too hard on uncapped accounts or maybe the softcap accounts are just that good.

There is no reason why uncapped should always be better value for money. We are trying to ensure that they both provide good value for money, which to chose depends on your needs.

Depending on your pov, if your speeds drop suddenly from 230kb/s to 4kb/s it may as well be a cut off. Let's call a spade a spade.
A decent company should be honest with their customers.

Haven't gotten an International speedtest result like this in ages !

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3458 kbps (432.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 405 kbps (50.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 231 ms
8/31/2014 7:16:30 PM

Keep this up, and I'll withdraw my cancellation.

Fair enough, I'll test it tomorrow evening. As of 19:15 today there is no improvement.

Will report back tomorrow.

Speedtest have alwayse been fine during this whole kzn issue for me, even the pings were excellent but real world traffic is a different story and that is why I don't trust speedtest as a benchmark.

Local speedtest has always been perfect for me, but International was always borked. There was the odd occasion I'd get around 2.3Mbps, but I think that was about as high as it went. First time in ages that I've gotten full speed on an International speedtest. Downloads are also pretty good, although I don't really have anything sizeable to dl right now. Will keep monitoring, but this is better than I've gotten in quite a while. Or ... maybe everyone in my area is just not using the net right now.

Has anybody else in the Northcliff area noticed the speeds getting worse and worse. I don't download series etc at all and it has gotten to the point where I cannot even watch YouTube on 360p anymore. Is there any way for me to determine if it's exchange congestion or if Telkom ISP needs to get dumped?

Use a free account from another ISP?

I guess that would do it but its a pain as I have to setup the router each time.

My default use device is my cell phone not my pc so using a different account through it ain't easy.

Will give it a test once the PC is on though.

Is that really the only way to check if the exchange is congested? Is there anywhere I can check online? I would love to know when I can go onto 10 meg but my exchange doesn't support it.
