Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Going to Format my PC coz of a Disk read error. Still on Vista ;-(

Are you sure that fixing a disc read error requires formatting and re-installing Vista? Your main problem is Vista, not the disc error! :-P

I had to use a 2Mb capped account over the weekend and I came away surprised, things are much better than I remember them to be back in February. Gaming performance just slightly better than Afrihost Business.

Torrents now running at 75-100% of line speed which is as it was before in day time, good stuff.
Downloads running at full line speed.
Streaming video still buffers.

I'll do some more tests this evening.

:D

<3 ranger-san and the undercovers in the thread....

Just did another quick test after 5pm and things are even better.

Torrents now running at near line speed with the occasional dip to 166KB/s and then quickly ramps up again.
Downloads still fine, I do however notice the occasional dip followed by a ramp up so we're not getting a 'flat line' as yet.
Streaming now works 100% (I don't have any evidence but I think it runs better than it ever has), yes Gboss even movieshd.co where the buffer now runs away from the actual video.

Huzzah!! This is super great news :) .

/wonders how those claiming to leave / left going to feel now :D

I'm still in my month's cancellation phase, so I can retract it, but I'll see how this week goes.

Just tested again, testing just after 5pm is probably a bad idea as everybody is sitting in traffic on their way home :D

Latency is up to 43ms from 19ms earlier.

Browsing is slower, wait quite a while between clicking a link and page loading.

Download tests from ftp://ftp-test.telkomadsl.co.za/ are really crap!

wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/man.../0.8.11-pre2/manjaro-net-0.8.11-pre2-i686.iso is also dog slow.

Streaming is impossible!

Torrrents are completely dead, not even 1b/s.

Bottom line is there is no improvement since yesterdays change.

Just did my speed and ping tests with Afrihost backup account. Less then half the latency to London. Ping to Cape Town was over 178 on Telkom. Service has definitely fallen apart.

Consider I am not a downloader or abuser this is unacceptable. Looks like I am dumping Telkom tomorrow.

I am getting very high latency to telkoms website, but strangely, my streaming is fine.

We are aware of an issue in Gauteng affecting latency, but throughput has not been affected too badly, and we won't be able to do anything about it tonigjt without risking further impact.

We implemented a major infrastructure upgrade in Cape Town (early Saturday) and Gauteng (early Sunday). It looks like there is a side effect to the scaling of the infrastructure resulting in some IPC congestion at times of peak demand.

We should be able to resolve it by tomorrow.

OK will retest tomorrow.

BTW ranger. I have sent you a pm.

This morning I was somewhere in the 4-5GB range with nothing on the usage graph, now it looks a bit bad for day 1.

All I did today was browse & run short tests (3 times), hard to believe it chowed 4GB.

@ponder , that is rather worrying.

Mines looks something like this with browsing NeoGAF / Youtube [darn G Cardboard was difficult to build :p] & mybroadband :/.

Should mention that i had downloads all day on the 31st

Code:
Logon Time	Logoff Time	Duration
(Seconds)	IP Address	Bytes
Uploaded	Bytes
Downloaded
Sun Aug 31 02:51:39 2014	Mon Sep 1 02:38:12 2014	85593	105.224.19.194	467 216 338	18 781 060 026

18GB and session closed early on the 1st.

Code:
Mon Sep 1 02:38:12 2014	Mon Sep 1 18:34:58 2014	57406	105.224.19.194	97 061 051	3 868 845 048
Mon Sep 1 18:36:53 2014	Mon Sep 1 18:38:06 2014	73	105.227.181.161	135 843	222 911

So roughly half of what you used. I didn't run anything over an hour though continuously as this might trigger something?

Also had a schedule finish at 06:59am. No green on the usage bar.

Looked into building one myself too but found it at Micro Robotics for 99 Rand bra :D
It's freaking awesome!
Have you tried Swivel gun VR logride?

@ponder: How did you see your daily usage on the same day? Was it because you have more than 1 session on the day and it reflects the usage as you close a session?

Yesterday my usage showed nothing - cold only see it this morning.

I assume so. I reboot the router (& pc) before testing kzn ipc issues, hence the 5 sessions.

Edit: Confirmed, today's usage so far after a disconnect,
