doubt if there would be 100m of slack avalable... initial post from ranger said they were splicing in a temporary solution. Probably a 144f meaning 288 splices (144 at each end)![]()
Either way that Fujikura worked overtime

Was it overhead fibres that burnt? Strange that such an important route is not UG...They pulled in 2x 144s, so ponder is right, 576 splices.
So I've been scheduling downloads from 00:05 to 05:58 for the past 3 months (only NZB's). Some days if i'm lucky i'll get 4GB, but most of the time it's around 1.9 to 2GB. I'm on a 2mb line so that equates to like half my line speed during night surfer which is really pathetic as I don't do bulk downloads at all during the day. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me??
Are you using a paid server? I could easily get 8-9gigs between 00:00 and 06:00 using nzb's. Thats with a 4MB line so you should effectively get 4-4.5gigs.
Using SAIX news server was a joke, I was lucky if I got 50% line speed between those times.
SAIX. So that explains it then.
So my question is why should we pay for another service to get better lines speeds? This is like a double tax system. You pay for a service, then if you want better service you must pay again. I mean Night surfer is meant for bulk downloads and we should get at least 80% line speed during that time so why throttle speeds during that period?
In the beginning I used to get line speed using SAIX news server but that changed from around the start of the year.
I used to use sunnyusenet.com (now using the free news server from CW) and what a difference. Set up your nzb client to use SSL and you will get line speed all day. I didn't mind having to pay for an additional service as sunny is less than 30 rand a month. Chump change when compared to the benefit of being able to get my nzb down at 420kB/s at anytime.
Could you PM me details on the CW free news server.
It only works if you a CW customer. It is an integrated part of their product lineup.

Lol. But Gboss has a TI uncapped account!
OMG!! I stand corrected then. He could be switching accounts for daytime peak usage?
