Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

About 20gb so far this month. This is what the bar looks like. Bulk of it was done between midnight and 7am this morning.

One support guy claims your line is now getting progressively slowed if you use too much as well. That would explain the current performance, but there is so much nonsense coming out of this company, who knows. Despite downloading overnight, they quote you how much you used (other ISPs as well) as if you broke the law!

Dude, you talk so much BS. No one here has ever had their line "progressively slowed" even when in the red zone this has never happened to me.

I think you can stop posting here because your posts are neither useful or constructive. It's clear you don't want your problems fixed but prefer to bitch instead.

@ranger

Is the nightsurfer free data issue resolved yet, data still looks skewed on my 10MB uncapped? TI Tracker is usually at 15% after 1 week & 100GB

I'm reporting what a Telkom person said - if you read my post. You aren't the boss here even if it's your nickname.

A temporary solution is to disconnect your current session before and after night surfer data, not completely practical but doable until they figure something out :). If i had to guess, i would think it would be on the middle - lower priority list now :/.

The other thing is to setup one of those pc boxes with software to monitor usage and you should have a rough idea of usage between night surfer data & daytime usage :p. This would apply if you have multiple wifi clients and other networked devices [if you are a user [not cavedog] who only has a pc hooked up, a simple software like Networx can be all you need to monitor usage].

Lastly and i need correction here, a Mikrotik router can be configured for this reporting too ? :D [so many things to try on practically no budget or time :p for me personally] :p

Strange, even it was on somewhere 25% green bar.

I was HTTP downloading in early afternoon from serious company website, it was going full line speed and then suddenly towards middle of download speed dropped to 25%.

Earlier, I had orange bar somewhere 75%, my youtube experience was horrible @ 7pm-11pm.

Explanation?

As far as I'm concerned your making everything up. Why is it that only you are being fed the BS? I know coz you made it up.

Maybe if you didn't post ballz then ppl might take what you say seriously.

A Telkom person told me that if you play your lotto numbers backwards then your line will progressively speed up - must be true because I said a Telkom person told me!

It can be many things but I doubt it's what AG said. 7pm to 11pm is peak streaming time, Ranger has even said the network is working hard between the hours of 7-9PM.

What would help determining the cause would be to run some tests at the time your having trouble. It's also very possible for an exchange to show signs of congestion one minute and then a few minutes later it's normal again.

If what AG claims is true we would see more complaints of the same.

To put it bluntly the only Telkom person I'll believe is Ranger. Till he says it's so, it aint so.

Yep, my connection is pretty much useless during that time as well, till after 10pm for me actually. Been a problem since June for on my side.

Have things gotten any better since the last fix?
I have a feeling that once the IPC is fixed things will be back to stellar again.

I went through the entire weekend having no issues at all. Downloaded quite a bit, only because I really wanted to see how much I could do before any issues, but none came up. Well, there was one time, but a router reboot got things back on track again. Not sure if a fix was applied or not for KZN. The real test will be the dreaded 5pm-10pm time period on weekdays.

Keep us posted please Shane. This is real good news coz I couldn't get any streaming done over the weekend. Funnily enough my nzb's would be flying full tilt yet I couldn't watch a movie online.

This weekend was the first time I was able to stream a movie over the weekend. Watched Edge of Tomorrow without a buffer or hitch :D
EDIT: I wasn't using my Ti account to stream.

Will do, boss ;)

This 'evening peak' thing is relatively recent, isn't it? I mean, back in the day, we all ditched DSTV, discovered torrents and it was like Yay! Free stuff!

Then we discovered the usenet. Yay! More free stuff! and you don't have to seed it!

Now it seems it's all vpn's and unotelly and netflix and hulu and stuff. Not free, but first world stuff. I understand that. But it strikes me there's a good reason why netflix couldn't be bothered with this country: They've seen this thread, and all the others here like it! They know our webz are crap. They know that legit netflix users who sign up to a ZA netflix product are not going to have a good experience.

My solution to this is to just stick with overnight downloading and watch it later. Not having kids helps the plan somewhat :)

"She-who-must-be-obeyed" and I can barely manage an hour or so of watching anything of an evening before we both fall asleep anyway.

"So much to watch - so little time"

I would love to do the streaming thing, but until we get some real speeds and some reliable stable accounts, I just don't see it happening.

Oh yeah, I've got no issues doing the downloads off peak, but the problem is general browsing and even YouTube is almost useless during the peak hours of 5-10pm. Never used to be that way. I can live with the shaping of downloads during that time, but streaming should not be affected at all. Still got a few weeks left on my cancellation, but I'm a bit more optimistic about retracting it after this past weekend.

I challenge you to call Telkom and ask for the person in question to verify for yourself. Do you accept?
