Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

P2P was performing well this afternoon. A sign of things to come or end of month data excess?

Well last night Telkom Internet at my home in Bloemfontein was deader than the Dodo, Afrihost flew ... , just spoke to my Son who is home from school, says internet is running fine again ... , wonder what the issue was last night ...

See my post from yesterday afternoon. Not much we can do when half our IPC capacity is down.

Only way I have gotten decent streaming is by throwing lots of money at Vodacom ...

It is apparently usually good on our capped accounts. No need to pay ridiculous mobile rates.

There are some changes coming that are intended to try and maitain a netter experience for most users at times of peak demand.

I left some month-end downloads allday yesterday and it was still chugging after flying back home & did 16.9GB :D so that issue didn't affect me it seems :p but man, the wireless Telkom generously sponsored was over saturated at the conference however i was able to browse, Aki shouldn't have joked about torrenting [unless he purposely never say nzb :D].

As always, thanks ranger for the feedback.

Torrent speeds were very low after midnight, only picking up to half-speed after 1:30AM.

In my home at least 4 different Steam games get played, League of Legends, AION and Guildwars 2 daily, that is a **** load of updates, never mind playing time or watching YouTube video's on how to improve at playing any of these games, current capped accounts just don't cut it ...

Uncapped is also only a halfway decent compromise, I'd like to be able to stream a few English Premier League football games, and the odd movie ... , but no product offered comes close to covering all the bases ... :(

Mine kicked in straight away.

Due to month end (and to be super safe) I reset my router at 00h01.
Of course they did.

What does resetting the router do? Do you mean leaving it off for a few minutes to reset the port?

Our needs are quite modest, but you definitely underline my view that the people at Telkom agreeing the shaping and limits for the ISP are way behind the times.

I would set up a contact group including a range of ages and see how they use the internet before making archaic restrictions.

No, it closes your current session and when you re-authenticate it starts a new session [see saix site for further details for your account]. I personally don't do this unless i see intermittent issues but a good practice nonetheless :)

Port reset is done via the social channels or on the phone. I do believe Ti will have it in a CP sometime in the future :D.

That's why I asked. It will get reset if the modem/terminal is left off for a while (10mins?)

No, port reset (if you are using TI) can only be done via the ADSL Call Centre.

Afrihost (iirc) have this function on their customer portal and their users can do it themselves. TI were busy developing this but it was halted due to certain other ISPs objecting by claiming that TI was abusing its relationship with Telkom Wholesale.

I hope they do finish up the development!!

If Afrihost have this function then i dont understand the complaints? Unless this all happened before Afrihost had the ability to self reset?

Steaming experience is poor again for me today. 1000kbps stream keeps buffering on microsoftvirtualacademy.com

Edit: Switched to my AH capped account and the stream is working great (so its not the streaming service)
