Selected sites died again... mybb, google, youtube, and just noticed olx... others seem fine

Normally happens for me for 10-15min, but this is now 30min and counting

As always, tracers all fine, pings 0 packet loss, but pages never load

Please nslookup your DDNS address a few times, and see if you get the same IP, or different IPs.

I did see previous IPs returned in the early stages of testing. I think some changes were made to address this, but there may be another aspect to fix.

You can also PM me your username and I can check, and get a stale record cleared manually.

Just to advise that DDNS is broken again. I pm'd you earlier today.

BTW, is there a general malaise with Cape Town ADSL? Mweb network status is showing a large number of problems.

For over a week I've been having similar problems to some mentioned above.
Most traceroutes test ok, yet every third or fourth speedtest shows ping in excess of 3 seconds.
Very bad Skype and MS Lync voice calls, while SpeedTest flies.
Gmail, YouTube and other Google services non-existent or loading extremely slow, only to suddenly go back to normal minutes later.
Test ISPs render mixed results - some good some bad, not consistent.
I suspect exchange congestion. Have PM'd TelkomZA.

Difficult for me to accept that to expect more than 2 months of stable and consistent broadband service is frowned upon by many since "you live in Africa, don't expect it to be of any standard" - not sure where that approach will eventually leave us...
I do realise that expectations have to be realistic, but exactly how many braais and good weather days justify the standard of service we receive vs what we pay for in SA... I guess everyone has to figure that out for themselves.
 
I cleared my browser cache and had the port reset. Tried the same video which gets stuck now at 0:44.

I swapped over to a capped account from Axxess and it all works perfectly. No congestion at fault.

Clearly a Telkom Internet issue.

So it gets stuck every time, no matter how many times you refresh, or change the quality? I tried that video and it works for me, a very strange problem indeed.

I'm running auto, same as yours 196.43.50.190/196.43.38.190. Have also tried google public, 8888/8844 but same thing happens. And its always just a few sites (that I notice). Always google, youtube, mybb and earlier notice olx too. All other sites I visit are fine. Tracerts seem fine. Pings are fine. Just nothing loads. 5-10min later all is fine again

We have a change that we are testing that we want to deploy next week that will finalise some temporary changes we put in that might be related to some of these issues.

But olx and mybb (unless you mean mybb speedtest) don't really fit with this possible explanation.

Please send a mail to support at telkomsa dot net and PM me the ticket number so we can have someone work with you to narrow down the problem.

I've seen something specific to the Cape Town site that is probably causing this, and I have notified the operations team. This specific problem will hopefully be fixed for tomorrow night/Friday morning.

That's not the way it is supposed to be, and we are working on fixes with our vendors. The first attempt to address it broke too many things, so even though we know the cause and are confident we can put the fixes in without impact, we will have to take a bit more time on them this time (and also wait for some other planned changes in the network).
