Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Has anyone tested something like rapidshare or turbobit?
My brother got a telkom account and said he cannot download ANYTHING, Youtube works and browsing is fine. Downloading on turbobit doesnt load, torrents dont move during the day(between 12 and 7 they reach 150Kbps on 4mb line). He tried to download a linux cisco thing of 2,7GB it said 3-5 days download time...

This was the fundamental issue which drove me to cancel my TI uncapped - random and unpredictable, sometimes insanely severe, shaping. eg: I could never stream anything between the hours of 6pm and 11pm. Not even at 240p. Other times of the day, no problem, even at 1080p. Torrents? Outside of nightsurfer hours, just forget it. Totally blocked.

I've been following this thread from the start, and it's an issue which just keeps coming up again and again. A person's patience can only go so far when all you hear is "we're tweaking the shaper" (or words to that effect). Why are we always tweaking the shaper? As Keoma Wright says in this MyBB article today : “Shaping needs to be discarded for good. This is holding all industry players back.”

I've been on an Afrihost capped account for a couple of weeks now. Loving it. It helps that my data requirements have lessened of late - I just don't need uncapped any more. 100Gb pm is enough. And it's cheaper. Win win.

Been wanting to say for a while it seems to be fixed, speed and ping are back to 'normal', but every time I do it seems to jinx it

Also looking better my side at this very moment, but frankly, I think it would be fair to say that until one can see an improvement that lasts for more than a couple of minutes or hours, the problem is not resolved.

Somehow they've managed to get Netflix to buffer now - an impressive, but equally disheartening, achievement. :o

Still holding strong... pings good, tracers good, speeds good :)

Telkom forcing one to braai and dop the entire weekend...

Sat down now to stream something, or rather, with TI, to stream nothing...

All fine with Afrihost test account.

Downloads and browsing relatively okay, but just don't try to stream anything. #wantonsshapejoumoertoe

Completely useless for anything - browsing, downloading, local and international. Line speed seems fine according to router. Reboots not achieving anything

My line is performing well, I can't see any problems that would affect Gauteng. Can you post a traceroute for a site/server that is slow for you.

Nightsurfer does not seem to be working in respect of relaxing the shaping on p2p traffic, quite the opposite in fact:

... anyone else noticed this?

Yip it's completely dead, My torrents are simply not working, I still have the same torrents queued from 3-4 nights ago and they are not going anywhere, stuck at 0kb/s and does not budge at all.

p2p traffic is essentially completely blocked.

Did not have anything lined up from midnight but I did load up CSI, TopGear Part 2, Major Crimes and The Librarians at 4h30 and they all completed by 7h00.

EDIT: and Live at the Apollo E5 ...

According to userstats.adsl.saix.net I did about the same up as down during nightsurfer, 2.5GB for a total of 5GB, running at around 1Mbps max down instead of 5.5Mbps. As can be seen from the graph my down speed returned to 2.8Mbps when nightsurfer ended. From the little testing I can perform during business hours it seems that TI detects p2p download speed and shapes once it exceeds an undetermined limit.

Well my problem is still there, after a legnthy message via @telkomZA, the only reply i got was "Hi, according to test result ping is fine to TI, no line errors and no congestion. No ISP have control once you outside the network.HR"

Here is the message i sent:

These test snaps was about 2 weeks ago, but problem is still there.
Can someone please help me understand why connecting to MWEB causes ping to jump?
As a league gamer, one would think with Telkom sponsoring arguably the biggest gaming league in the country, PING to any and all ISPs in the country would be phenomenal.

Will this issue still be there if i switch to a capped account? Or should i rather switch to something else.....again

What is the cost for a 2mb line uncapped with Telkom? I only want to stream, so no downloads and so on.
