Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Stuck with extremely slow internet here in Riviera. Is this something Telkom are aware of? I would love to be able to call Telkom when I have problems with our connection but thanks to a woman in Hatfield shop not wanting to deal with us, Telkom will only talk to wife and she's not around.

Get a wig, some sunglasses and talk in a high voice :p

Things are looking better this morning, iPlayer's working and most torrents completed during nightsurfer, those that didn't are currently subject to normal TI business hours shaping (around 50kB/s). The latency & package loss problems with wblv-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom I reported last night have also been resolved.

I'll schedule a couple of linux torrents for nightsurfer tonight to see if my speed problem there has been resolved.

Looks like "ranger" was able to get things working well again. Telkom is a pleasure to use when all is working properly. Thanks "ranger"

ADSL completely borked. Using 3G on my cell to pop this up. Afrihost and TI - nothing connects.

Been on hold for past 20 minutes- anyone else struggling? I'm down in Paarl.

JHB slow'ish for me again... speedtests, tracers all look okay, but slow opening anything... youtube unwatchable even on 240p, stops every few seconds to cache:cry:

Yep - Hulu is streaming like a champ. Fingers crossed it lasts!

On hold for over an hour. Killed it - called again, answered in 7 minutes.

Reset port - and all appears back to normal. Also crossing fingers.

Yeah, my internet and phone line died about an hour ago, maybe due to the thunder storm that happened here (southern Gauteng), but it's the first time the net has died so hard that even the ADSL light doesn't switch on..

Anyone got any idea or potential help? Appreciated.

As mentioned above - my calling 10210 and having them reset my port did the trick for me. Not sure if that will help you, but worth a try surely.

Phone 10210 and report a line fault due to thunderstorm.

Thanks for the quick help, looks like the problem sorted itself out, phone line and internet just came back up.

I had that the other day - no dial tone and internet down, lasted about 20 mins, so can only assume they were doing something at the exchange.

There were more problems than we had expected due to the rate of DSLAM migrations over the past few months (meaning 10000s IPs moved to other regions), combined with some of the work we did in early December. The combination resulted in:
- Some subscribers exiting IPC in the wrong region
- Some subscribers exiting IPC in one region but going via a different region for international/transit

(Some of these problems are only because we have the most IPC capacity thus connected to more IPC routers on the ADSL side which makes routing policy quite complex in order to get load balancing right)

This obviously means problems with user experience and capacity planning being challenging.

We believe we have fixed the problems abive permanently, but will still be doing final audits (well, finalise some scripts to automate) checking all routes, and will need to tweak load balancing a bit more.

It looks like he cleanups have fixed most experience problems in Cape Town though because users in Gauteng are not using transit capacity intended for Cape Town).

Btw., we also updated reverse DNS (as evidenced by some of the recent traceroutes in the thread) so users can easily see which region they are in (but these records need to be updated, so can be out of date for a business day or two in the csse of newly (re-) deployed IP ranges) and which IPC region they break out from.
