Thanks a lot ranger, I appreciate the info. At least I can understand the situation. I suppose that although they're not intentionally blocking P2P, they've shaped it to the point where zero throughput is possible.
Unfortunately, since this is a 24 month contract, I only have a couple of days left to get out of it.
I can't wait a couple of months for this to possibly be fixed or adjusted, as I only have a couple of days to get out of this contract. It's sad because if it weren't for this, Smart Home Advanced would have been perfect for me.
Thank you CPA.![]()
Telkom's FUP only relates to Uncapped accounts. No mention of an FUP on SoftCap.
I seriously wish there was another provider!
So was I.Wow... Okay okay... Sorry about that, but I was talking about the line provider and not the ISP.
Ts&Cs on the free data you don't pay for after you have used the data you pay for make provision for limiting abuse if the value-add, for example by limiting video streaming and p2p.
What other copper line provider is there? So was I.
Provision of broadband services is NOT limited to copper lines. What other copper line provider is there?
2/4/10 Mbps? Can anyone answer my question please?
How far can I push the little green bar on the titracker before someone at Telkom calls and threatens to break my kneecaps?
I schedule my p2p in night surfer hours.4Mbps uncapped.
what happens then? I get throttled?
if I do, will nightsurfer still be fast at least?
Wait... So why am I unable to use the data I pay for, i.e the first 20GB's for P2P? After all, I'm paying for it and should be able to use it as I deem fit.
The simple answer is it's better to use this tool to see your actual consumption on Uncapped: http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/Can anyone answer my question please?

1) The severe shaping of P2P in Cape Town over the past 4 months or so is due to Telkom Wholesale taking 6 months to provision additional capacity.
We are now (as of yesterday) in a position to reduce the severity.
2) The fact that most capped products (off-topic in this thread, there is a thread for SoftCap) have p2p shaped like uncapped is because the product definition hasn't been changed. This is in progress, as I have noted in this thread in the past few days.
Afrihost (or any other competitor) doesn't have the same hassles in this regard, because other ISPs don't take them to the competition commission every 2nd month, and they don't need to submit proof of the profitability of every individual product at regular intervals. So, we are never allowed to over-spend on bandwidth.
I schedule my p2p in night surfer hours.
I've hit 280GB without hitting orange.
If you DL in non-night surfer hours, I reckon it will hit orange at around 100GB.
