Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

This issue has been around for 2 weeks now... Dont think Telkom knows about it... I've messaged them and so far all they've done is do 2 port resets...

ct1-pr-01-te0-0-0.net.telkomsa.net [105.187.249.138] is the issue, it's been mentioned here a lot. I'm sure they're aware of it (not the call centre guys), some feedback would be appreciated.

Just some feedback. I've had this issue of bad ping ( games unplayable ) since September too. It seems the last 3 - 4 days has being good.

Ping, downloads all looking good so far. Not sure what has changed but hope it stays this way.

What's the point of this? What does it do?
When you connect on TelkomInternet ADSL account, your router gets an IP address. This IP address usually differs each time you reconnect. The DDNS feature then basically assigns a hostname which is always the same for your account (eg: telkomadsl123456.telkomsa.net) to that dynamic IP address. This comes in handy if you have any port fowards or DMZ set on your router and like to access your home/business from elsewhere. Very useful. If you use a service like TeamViewer, then you might find it unnecessary though. If you still don't know what any of this means, then you probably don't need the DDNS feature anyway

Anyways, if you want more info, then you might find this useful (LMGTFY...): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_DNS

PS. First post on Page #420 of this thread. Oh yeah ;-) Light it up ....

All this… and Unotelly! :)

I enabled the DDNS yesterday but it's still not active. :o

Did you switch off your router for a few minutes afterwards? I recall powering down my router in order to start a new session & then it was working. Not sure if that's your issue.

My DDNS address works sporadicaly, which makes it unusable, so I've reverted to no-ip
Are you using 1 session on the account , or are you sure that is this definitely not the problem? I haven't tested Telkom's DDNS myself yet, but I imagine that it could break easily if you have multiple sessions logged into the account ...

IIRC it took a day or so. Works well every time I've tested it but I prefer DtDNS & No-IP for my VPN tunnels. Here's my current stats for TI:

Code:
[mick@house ~]$ mtr -rc 10 [B][I]my-login[/I][/B].mydns.telkomsa.net
Start: Mon Oct 19 12:38:27 2015
HOST: house Loss% Snt Last Avg Best Wrst StDev
  1.|-- 105-186-70-96.south.dsl.t 0.0% 10 3.3 3.4 3.3 3.4 0.0
[mick@house ~]$

Should still return one of the IPs though I would have thought.

It's at a remote location but I'll ask them to try that. Thanks

Hi ranger.

Please can you help. I am in KZN and between troubles in JHB and CPT i am unable to play most games where the server is located in Cape Town. Here is a copy of the trace route. My ping up until 10 week ago used to be between 50 and 65 which is still playable. Now it fluctuates between 200 and 400.

What time are you doing this? its only at night this happens... roughly between 6pm to 10pm for me. The time the high ping kicks in for me changes everynight.

@ranger

Please tell us what is going on.

Our problems are NOT an isolated issue - there is definitely something happening on all TI accounts. across the country

I'm also pretty convinced that it is NOT network related, rather some form of configuration issue.

I'm also pretty sure it is not due to a lack of IPC as you have almost double the capacity that any other ISP has right now.

It is also not limited to uncapped accounts - it is also impacting capped account.

If it is due to some future 2-for-1 festive season promotion, you are going to have many very pissed off customers who are having their current services degraded.

Even Telkom ops specialists have been saying that the TI accounts aren't working properly and using other isp's...

I had a techie here today (a clued up 'timer)....

My line and IMAX port tests clear - very well in fact.

He plugged in his own personal modem and logged in using his own TI username. Results were the same as mine.

He told me that he has now done tests in eight different exchanges so far this week (going to two different DPSUs in PE) and all the results were NOT up to standard. High level support do not want to answer his questions....

Something is very wrong.

And I'm referring to latency, as my kids have been bitching big time over the last ten days or so.
