Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Isn't that the new system telkom put into place which would adjust the routers syncs to a "suitable level" hence the jumping upstream rate? (ACS being the method of how it's applied)

Maybe give TelkomZA a message

That makes sense, thanks for the info. :) That sounds like a plan, I'll send a tweet tomorrow. I don't think the forum rep is active any more. H

Hopefully a simple port reset can fix the issue. The max downstream rate is also only showing at 4mb, when my area supports 10mb, so there's definitely something strange going on. This is also the first time I've ever seen my upstream rate lower than 512. I wonder what could have caused everything to go to s**t so suddenly. There's been no extreme whether lately.

TelkomZA is still very much active but responds to PMs not in-thread posts. Send a PM with your ADSL line number and they can give you a report on its stability.

This is getting ridiculous now. I just rebooted my router because I had almost no internet and I get these speedtest results on a 4 meg line.

Download Speed: 1094 kbps (136.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 431 kbps (53.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 22 ms
11/9/2015, 6:13:05 PM

This is already less than a third of my line speed. If that is not bad enough, this is 10 minutes later.

Download Speed: 204 kbps (25.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 63 kbps (7.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 2988 ms
11/9/2015, 6:20:01 PM

What is happening?

I would recommend you pick up one of the trial accounts or free gig accounts offered by another ISP to test.
This looks like a line issue and not related to the ISP.

Check if something is uploading on your network like iCloud, that's what happened to me, I thought it was my line or exchange, but after turning off wifi, things went back to normal. After that, I enabled "bandwidth control" on my tplink which fixed the problem.

Or it's your line/exchange :p

Dropbox tends to do the same if you don't setup QoS

I think it's more of a line problem since I've turned off everything in the house that uses the internet, including the PC and still get the same type of issues. I get the same speed using a different account as well. I'm referring to the first speedtest.

Bummer then, PM TelkomZA so they can investigate.

I logged a fault online so will see what happens there first. I've been dealing with the Twitter version of TelkomZA for 2 months and they keep investigating. Online chat tells me I'm syncing at 4 meg, which I know, but they can't tell me why I'm getting 1 meg speeds. Hopefully this fault doesn't get closed with nothing being done.

I have the same problem. I have called Telkom and they confirmed that my line is synced at 10Mbps. But for some reason I'm getting 4Mbps speeds on speedtest.net. However on http://speedtest-rba.isdsl.net/ I get the correct 10Mbps download speed. I wonder where the problem lies?

What happens when you manually select a server on speedtest.net and not click on the begin tests button?

If you get 10mb anywhere at all, your line is probably fine... Have you tried another ISP? Have you tried a test to http://rosebank.spdtst.saix.net/ awhile using the guest@telkomadsl account?

I don't think that's my problem. Something is wrong somewhere as I still get similar results. It's as if my line is limited to 1 meg, sometimes 2 meg, even though I sync at 4 meg. Once or twice I've got above 3 meg early in the morning but those are rare occurrences.

I did that just now. Selected a different server in the same vicinity. It seems to start at the right speed (8.6 Mpbs) then it drops and stays at about 4 Mbps.

Not yet. I'll give that a shot.

Ok well I used http://rosebank.spdtst.saix.net/ with the guest account and I got this :
Download Speed: 8536 kbps (1067 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 843 kbps (105.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 14 ms
11/10/2015, 5:50:09 PM

So if the guest account works fine but my account doesn't what does it mean?
