Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

i'm in Gillits not getting DC's but a friend in pinetown is getting DC'ed every few minutes

My net is crawling for some reason everything feels slow, weird thing is speedtest and ping is fine but it's feels laboured

Downstream Line Rate (Kbps): 5120 shouldn't this be on 4mb as per my package?
Upstream Line Rate (Kbps): 512

could it be DNS related?

EDIT: I slapped in google DNS, and it feels better, but to tired to give AF now :D

Your line down is 5120 which is correct. Reason it's higher than 4Mb because of Telkom's system that gives you a little more speed so you can reach 4Mbps.

Umm maybe someone can help/double check.... doing a trace route, I see my traffic all goes to a Stellenbosch location, an ISP called Beyond the Network America, googling that gives me many people and companies saying its a Ukranian ISP known for spam operations? Huh? Do a traceroute, I'm getting all traffic being sent through a 196.10.140.198 at IXP in Cape Town but when doing a trace IP check for the owner, says this Ukranian company. Anyone else? Internet is not usable at all, also getting security certificate issues.

Taken from a site:
"This is known as "BTNA"

BTNA is a Ukrainian operated spammer-friendly/spammer-operated service. More and more carriers are refusing to peer with them due to the amount of spam that emanates from their IP ranges. Most business networks block all traffic from their IP ranges. At last check they had IP assignments in the US, China and Ukraine.

Hopefully you need to block this BTNA, justification for this site is not allowed because its against any company policy to allow spammer website to be accessed within the network."

Update: a little further trace routing on other sites, seems to have disappeared but some traffic going through various African based countries. Lucky if I get above 20kb/s here.

I was going through my usual news sites, unfortunately closed it and didn't take not of it, trying to find it again, but if you even traceroute ft.com goes via Africa. Paypal isn't resolving among many others. Especially nearly any local sites. Even this one, I've now switched to LTE data. Much better. Calling Telkom now.

What I meant was overall, just to do a random traceroute on your own traffic and see if it went to Stellenbosch.

Its gone, can't find it again. I did notice a possible BGP hijack earlier this week on the routing but lasted only 10mins or so. Lets just say, until internet is back to "normal" I'm not doing any internet banking. Hopefully things pick up soon.

Speedtest is showing low ping and full speed ahead, but pages fail to load and streaming in even 240p is a nightmare. Anyone else?

EDIT: Wait a tic. speedtest.net says 8.9Mbps, but mybroadband speedtest says 0.5Mbps. This makes no sense.

yeah something is up. Just now my youtube videos (when they decide to work) was in Korean subtitles. Something is definately going on with a range of traffic (not just SA). Noticed other routing being possibly hijacked from other providers too so it seems across the board strange traffic movements happening.

Oh well, here's hoping it gets better.

Edit 2: Wow ok, things are flowing again! Wooohoo

Getting tired of this. Constant issues recently. I think we should overload their call centre tomorrow so they'll fix the damn issue!

Think they just did a giant reset and hit the big red button? Telkom was down including their call center, now its up and its running better than ever, at least here it is. Eventually.

They are doing a lot of updates software wise according to the network planner... i had about 20 min of down time at midnight
