I have now moved over to fiber (10d/5u Telkom home uncapped)
I had 8mbps ADSL, using VOX Fatpipe.
I would like to thank TelkomZA (the mybroadband account) for helping me multiple times getting the ASSIA crap disabled on my ADSL line.
Normally on my ADSL (without ASSIA) i get a ping of 14ms on Battlefield 1, with ASSIA i get 30-something ping.
So thanks very much for helping me out, you are the only person (or persons) in the whole country that is able to fix it.
Now that i am on fiber, i really look forward to seeing how far i can go with their Fair Use Policy.
They say that they have up to 900 gigs softcap, which should be enough.
On the FatPipe it was really awesome unshapped all the time, but time will tell how the telkom ISP side of things are going to be.
I will see how far it can be pushed.
I know that its also possible to use the same Vox account on the openserve IPC network, but i could not get deal setup that allows me to have the line rented from Telkom, and just use Vox for the data. That would have been an ideal scenario, as vox fatpipe is the best by far, in my experience.
Since you can only get capped and uncapped at fairly significant prices, i opted to close down the fat pipe for good (good bye old friend) and stick with the uncapped Telkom account.
The main thing is that the pings are low on fiber, i was kinda scared that it would be in the 2 digits.
One other thing i really look forward to is not buying routers every time there is a lightning strike. I have spend more than R15 000 just on replacement routers thus far. About 2 routers every rainy season.
My favorite router is the Billion (non wireless) routers because they are cheap, and their software is quite good and stable, and ofcourse they do not have wifi.
TL;DR Deleted ADSL, added Telkom Fiber, thanks to TelkomZA for awesome support over the years.
