Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Tried this and worked for me*♂️

I am getting that error on an iPad. Not entirely sure how to create a new profile on an iPad. I am using Telkominternet as the APN. Maybe of I try it on a router it will work.

So today telkom employees came out to my mom's house to look at a noisy line - and for the second time coming out they reset the ADSL modem. And then some idiot from telkom calls me - acting all smug - like they did not just break my internet - and tells me there is no ISP details on the modem.

It is unlikely that any of these people you interacted with are Telkom employees :-(

So ... this begs the question ... is there one competent person working for telkom

Yes, there are a few, but the people you interact with (who are mostly outsourced) mostly wouldn't know how to escalate an issue to a Telkom employee (or, this is how it had been for a year at the point I left ...).

BTW., we had been on a campaign to stop techs and call centre agents from resetting modems or asking customers to reset modems, usually for the wrong reasons, but there was one change I had hoped to get implemented before I left that would have made it unnecessary to reset modems for the reason they do it ...

I have now moved over to fiber (10d/5u Telkom home uncapped)

I had 8mbps ADSL, using VOX Fatpipe.

I would like to thank TelkomZA (the mybroadband account) for helping me multiple times getting the ASSIA crap disabled on my ADSL line.

Normally on my ADSL (without ASSIA) i get a ping of 14ms on Battlefield 1, with ASSIA i get 30-something ping.
So thanks very much for helping me out, you are the only person (or persons) in the whole country that is able to fix it.

Now that i am on fiber, i really look forward to seeing how far i can go with their Fair Use Policy.
They say that they have up to 900 gigs softcap, which should be enough.
On the FatPipe it was really awesome unshapped all the time, but time will tell how the telkom ISP side of things are going to be.
I will see how far it can be pushed.

I know that its also possible to use the same Vox account on the openserve IPC network, but i could not get deal setup that allows me to have the line rented from Telkom, and just use Vox for the data. That would have been an ideal scenario, as vox fatpipe is the best by far, in my experience.
Since you can only get capped and uncapped at fairly significant prices, i opted to close down the fat pipe for good (good bye old friend) and stick with the uncapped Telkom account.
The main thing is that the pings are low on fiber, i was kinda scared that it would be in the 2 digits.

One other thing i really look forward to is not buying routers every time there is a lightning strike. I have spend more than R15 000 just on replacement routers thus far. About 2 routers every rainy season.
My favorite router is the Billion (non wireless) routers because they are cheap, and their software is quite good and stable, and ofcourse they do not have wifi.

TL;DR Deleted ADSL, added Telkom Fiber, thanks to TelkomZA for awesome support over the years.

I normally used to switch between ISPs on telkom line for data to avoid throttling?

But was adsl so dont know if possible on fibre

Telkom: Blocking my other data package but their connection is terrible slow; getting less than 5mbps on a 10mbps line, i rarely use the internet and have never defaulted in my payment

So upgraded to Telkom 20 mb VDSL, but no one at Telkom can move me over on VDSL. 12 calls later and no need can verify or understand that I'm still not on VDSL. I had this problem before and Telkom Za assisted via pm. Tried to Pm but no response. How do I get assistance. The call center agents just drop I when they have no clue what u talking about. I'm being so polite, buy that does not help. Someone please point me the right direction.

If you're on Twitter DM them, address it to Brian or Frank. They were the only ones that could gety profile updated when I changed over to VDSL.

Always found the Twitter team friendly and on the ball.

Frank is quite a helpful chap. He really tries, pity the company he works for is so pathetic. He must be as frustrated as hell dealing with all the support issues he has to deal with.

Frank is the best!
Dude really makes sure to sort issues out - used To DM me some months to check up cause i didn't report any issues :D

Thanks guys , I just went on Twitter and sent them a message. This is my last resort before pulling all my hair out. Lol.

Are you bald yet?

Almost lol.

Still no help on twitter, still no help from TelkomZA on mybb. Was on the phone with Telkom, literally 3 hours. But finally got somewhere. Between 15 ppl someone managed to confirm that all the configuration is correct. So got excited and called technically challenge support call centre. And everytime they changed me to VDSl mode, it showed the connection but i lost internet connection. So after all this time the guy on the phone comes back and says my exchange does not support VDSl rofl.

My exchanged got upgraded 4 months ago, they sending out a tech to do some changes on the exchange. Lets see.

Good luck, and I don’t mean that sarcastically. We’ve been without service for two weeks now. Frank has tried his best, but Telkom are so incompetent that he’s simply the brunt of everyone’s frustrations. They had the audacity to close the support ticket yesterday and ignored my sms response to the contrary and left it closed. I wish OUTA was the Organisation Undoing Telkom’s Apathy.

Is anyone else in South Africa experiencing a disconnection daily between 10am and 1pm? It's been happening for over a month now. Wondering if it's the exchange, I connect to the Stamfordhill exchange, Durban. Calling Telkom won't really do anything (tried) so was wondering if it's a "data-shedding" moment or something. It's generally more near 11am and 12pm but its definitely daily and around midday. Always. It's not the hardware my side (tested various) and it goes down for around 10mins then magically gives us internet again. Obviously can't do anything about it but its an interesting mystery.

Nope. No such issues on my side in Durban.

Thanks Fox1. Helps knowing that it doesn't affect all, ok so, must be the area here or something specific with my line where it connects with the exchange. Strange. Will just wait this one out, hopefully it fixes itself in the coming months.

Telkom line went down lastnight, got reports that others around the country are also affected? Still no line at all, completely dead, no voice, adsl etc.. Have reported.

All okay on my side, except for the issue of hitting the pathetic FUP and now I must wait like 10 mins for Vox Telecom's website to load.
