Telkom Internet E-Mail down?

Hey,

Is anyone on Telkom still down? I have a home account in PE that is completely dead and the telkom helpline had me on hold for 50 minutes with no answer. (yeh I know it's Christmas)
Router has been re-started.

Any help will be appreciated....

A wee bit more info might be helpful. Line synced? Is it stable? Can you make/receive calls on that line? Do you get an error when you try to connect to telscum? What error do you get? Have you tried an alternative ISP account? Have you tried the guest account?

Not sure if the line is synced. Feel like a noob asking how you tell - but how do you? not my line.. Line is stable, can make and recieve calls, the error is 691. There is no alternative ISP account. By guest account you mean with Hellkom or other ISP?

A noob is an idiot that does not ask questions...
On your ADSL router there should be a bunch of lights. One of them should be marked as ADSL/DSL. This is the baby that keeps flashing at a steady rate when you turn the thing on and then as soon as the modem is synced, goes all steady-on and stays that way the rest of the time. Assuming of course your router got a DSL light to begin with. I have in the past seen some routers with a single "combo" DSL/internet light.

An alternative way would be to log into your router if you know the IP address of it of course.

The fact that you got that error means that your line is syncing fine, otherwise you would not have gotten that error to begin with. Error 691 means your username/password is wrong. But as per this thread it is clear that this was just a Telkom fault - their authentication servers were down. So your internet should be working again now.

Telkom has a guest account that allows you to "test" your adsl without actually having an ADSL ISP account. They come hardwired into most of the telkom supplied routers - if you factory reset the router it will connect with this account.
Username: guest@telkomadsl
Password: guest

Testing with a 3rd party ISP will also be a good idea if you ever need to test your line. Get e.g. a afrihost/cybersmart free 1GB/month account that you can keep for times like these.
