Hi, i just called Telkom to find out about their accounts, and they said that they are hardcapping from today.

If dotco dont hardcap, and they loose on 5 Dec, they will be bankrot and dissapear from the face of the earth.
If they honestly dont hardcap, then they either have very deep pockets or very empty heads :D

all a big balls up this 1 Nov thing, toss us a pill.
:D

I still dont understand what it means if telkominternet doesnt hard cap? If they can manage all their subscribers usage then why cant they be allow to soft cap? Does everyone has to offer exactly the same thing in order for it to be fair. I agree that if they dont play by the same rule then that is not fair. However, if they play by the same rule and in doing that they can offer soft cap then let them do it.

Telkom is selling hardcapped accounts to its wholesalers and selling softcap accounts retail.

I've been downloading 7GB this morning on a TelkomInternet 3GB account. Disconnected and reconnected. Softcap. Going to download some more. Lets see when this baby stops.

Dear TelkomInternet subscriber,

Herewith a report to indicate that your total usage reflects the following:

Username: Telkom******@dsl512telkomsa.net
Uploaded: 0Bytes
Downloaded: 0Bytes
Combined Total: 0Bytes

Should you reach the 3.00GB cap on the combined total, you will be redirected to a throttled international service.

To unsubscribe from this reporting service or view your online usage graphs, go to http://adsl.telkomsa.net

Thank you for choosing TelkomInternet, we value your dedicated support.

Regards,

TelkomInternet

No mention of Hardcap there, or have they just not botherd to update the notification system?

In danger of sounding like Im taking telkom's side, but isnt telkom now charging isp per usage and not account? so at the end of the month they send each ISP a bill for (cost per gig) x (gig used) instead of (cost per user) x (no of user). So are they really still selling accounts?

Anyway, the way i see it, there's a few ways you can approach this:

1. has a per gig restriction on each and everyone.
2. has a higher initial cap that only 60-80% of your user will reach, softcap the rest and hardcap those that go over the grace limit

I see the 2nd solution as being more consumer friendly and more in line with an always on connectivity solution. With TelkomInternet, I dont think their users use anywhere close to the 3gb limit. They can afford to do it.

Depends on the ISP I believe there where two options available so depends on which route the ISP went

Or Kahuna's de size of Wader Melons, ay caramba . . . .
isnt it cojones? kahuna is like high priest or top surfer dude or something.

back on topic: if Telkom is also hardcapping then i am happy, simply because they are not forcing the other ISP's to do something they do not want to do themselves.

fair is fair, but the consumer is the one being screwed. and the busineses!!! Ouch

I was just checking that myself.. However I did notice this which I didn't see before
Although TelkomInternet currently allows capped users restricted access to international sites and applications, and unrestricted access to local content, e-mail and applications, TelkomInternet reserves the right to deny authentication to any ADSL users dependent on network usage or abuse
Has that always been there? I'm not worried about the abuse part, but the "reservers the right...Network usage" I guess we as South Africans dont have any rights anymore since all our rights are signed away along with our soul when we get a phone line because telkom reserves the right to do as the please when they want to

I called Telkom Business first and they said they are hardcapping, then when i called the rest of Telkom Internet they said nothing changed, so its kinda confusing with those idiots

Man you are naive. Not close to the 3gb limit. Guess again dude. LOL!
I downloaded/uploaded 5gb since last night 00:00. Not close...you're not close at all.
