Telkom Internet Is Hardcapping

TelkomInternet reserves the right to deny authentication to any ADSL users dependent on network usage or abuse

Telkom think that usage=abuse so effectively they can hard cap or not on a whim. Did anybody realy expect a level playing field.

I have accounts with Telkom internet, Mweb, Tiscally and Web Africa so I am looking forward to seeing how they compare when we start hitting the caps.

So far the Tiscally account seamed to hard cap on the 29th of October, but I haven't had a chance to analyse the logs yet.

It could be an interesting month or two. :)

Can an ISP not purchase 1000GB, or whatever, to be allocated as the ISP chooses? When they go over the purchased amount they will need to purchase another 1000GB, or get shot at dawn or are congratulated on the increased business or or ...

Just spoke to them 0800 375 375 people, dude said Telkom Internet are not capping local, but it is being throttled to "dial up speeds" and if that is anything like their international "throttling" then yes they are hard capping.

I'd be surprised if TelkomInternet did hard cap local internet. That'd just be too stupid.

If telkom wants to charge usage, they need 2 prices, 1 for international and 1 for local otherwise you pay for something you are not using, we all know local is basically free anyway.

Man you are naive. Not close to the 3gb limit. Guess again dude. LOL!
I downloaded/uploaded 5gb since last night 00:00. Not close...you're not close at all.

Well what i was saying was that I do not think most of their 80000+ users with telkominternet use anywhere close to 3gb. You are just one of their users. I also use much more than 3gb but mostly on local stuff. I'm just thinking that most power users are no longer with them.

hrm i wonder how much a local only account will cost, cause not everyone really wants international, and then what will be cause for a high price per gig this time ? not international cost ;)

Economies of scale, if more people use only local access we will be label to reduce the cost.

oh my god. local only accounts. information superhighway. progress.

welcome to f#%($_*#)$(%ing south africa.

Local only account would great. Then we are free to use any proxy server we want and also to control which traffic we divert there. So you can by 3gb worth of bandwidth from a proxy provider and then only divert international traffic thru that proxy.

Spinz

Can anybody with a telkominternet 3gig account who has reached the cap confirm if they are hardcapping.
