Telkom Internet Softcap Feedback

Hmm, apologise for that :). I also didn't experience ANY latency issues on Friday morning. Will see tonight what happens.

Not sure how much help but i had a Telkom technician out and explained, said his going to send a request to the specialists to monitor exchange usage between 12am - 7am. He took my email so am gonna await a response on that part :).

If i see latency is high again tonight, will post here and properly. :o

Edit v2.0 : Lost my previous edit "sigh"

I do apologise for incorrect info posted again as i have been trying to find the ESR address as the one you gave me timesout completely. I cannot get it. My mind is not as active as i need it to be :(.

I changed from my capped account to another iSP account [Vox for ref] and the same issues arise. Infact, i could not save this multiple times.

Am tired now and under flu meds so we can continue this tonight.

I wanted to say, hope you had an eventful Valentines Day ranger otherwise a good sports watching

But, if this occurs only after 01h00, then it may be that the relaxed p2p shaping is allowing high priority traffic to be shaped ...
I do believe this to be the culprit however should this not affect more people / exchanges or regions?

Please see below for the results as requested and properly done this time [hopefully] :).

Yes, and this proves the dslam is quite badly congested, with an average rount-trip from you, over the DSLAM to the edge service router and back, of 500ms, with the worst over 2.5s. You can see that the congestion isn't consistent, but even the minimum of 43ms is quite bad.

So, this test got somewhere between the min and the avg of your ping, so we can't be the problem ...

I think you are now officially off-topic in this thread :-p.

PM me your tel number and I will see if I can find out if there are plans to migrate your DSLAM to ME backhaul soon (no promises though, I am a bit snowed under with my own work).

Thanks ranger, your input has been nothing short of fantastic :). Happy i was wrong about the congestion :).

Sending a PM shortly.:)

/good to know i can function while under some antibiotics

I've tested with a trial account from Axxess and Webafrica and I still get the same pings locally so it must be an exchange issue. Is there anything I can do about it or must I live with it?

Some thread revival here.

As per my previous issue, still having it but something worse has come about

Users reporting issues started after 12am and seems to be North [KZN] region from what i gather. My sense of direction was never really good :o

From the uncapped thread

Im on capped but is any one experiencing slow speeds slow speeds and time outs on Telkom atm

schumi is in the DBN region.

MickeyD reports browsing all good in PE :)

Yup had to switch accounts, everything completely broken.

Guessing KZN region :p

sites timing out etc.

Almost forgot about you.
Uncapped. Can't access anything google related or Mybb. Telkom mobile is working just fine though.

and lastly me over here.

Telkom_Internet_10MB_Intermittent_Issue_12am_-_2am_090315.jpg

Funny enough as I type this, the speed for the first time spiked to 900KB/s and then back down again. Bearing in mind that I have congestion, I wonder what this other issue is :/. I did see a pattern similar to this a long time ago due to a traffic shaper but testing another iSP account also yields the same pattern as shown above, I have to rule that out then.

Can anyone whose awake test a Twitch stream for me and let me know if source works without buffering at this time. I was streaming a few minutes before 1am and it worked flawlessly [10Mbps] but right after 1am, it is buffering like mad.

( ‾ʖ̫‾) What Is Life? ( ‾ʖ̫‾) - @DatGuyLirik remember to switch to source

Don't want to send a signal to @ranger yet but would be happy to hear from him :). Have not tested another account but want it working on NS :p.

Streaming Twitch Ti NS 0050am - 105am 160415.jpg

Will see if i can add some guest account pings if it will help.

As of before hitting the post button, stream is unstreamable, just stuck on the screen last shown. There is 32k others viewing it however :).

Some of the worst capped bandwidth out there. When it works it works, but there are just far too many intermittent problems, sudden latency spikes and packet loss, etc.

Hi PP,

When did you notice this starting?

For me it was few months so have gathered info and busy discussing with the FB team and sending traceroutes almost daily since Friday.

Friday - performance was like it was meant to be.
Saturday - This was terrible - though users in other parts also complained AND possibly it was a DDOS on UNOTelly.
Sunday - Performance was fine but not stellar
Monday - Noticed from around 8am PL but improved towards afternoon.
Lastnight was quite great aswell as this morning.

Not holding my breathe just yet, as you say and i have seen, it is intermittent.

Telkom Internet capped went to the dogs around 1 year ago. It used to be so good, unshaped 24/7, then suddenly it all went pear.

I have a 50GB account as part of my 10Mbps line bundle, but never use it because it's so bad.

ranger has been of no help whatsoever, in fact useless. Pity.

I've now been holding on the line for 20 minutes. I load the agent chat app, and it either doesn't load, fails, I get disconnected, etc.

Ouch! I can't say i noticed it being so bad since we only got the account around mid november last year. Abit too harsh for ranger :o i think.

What do you believe to be the cause or atleast suspect?

I don't think it's harsh. I've sent dosens of PMs, emails to [email protected] as he's suggested in thread, even with [Attn ranger] - nothing, deaf ears always.

Not too sure. Every other account flies. As soon as I connect to TI, I have issues. Could be a Cape issue, maybe an even more localised issue? There aren't that many complaints about TI, I'm guessing no one uses them, or that they're in another part of the country that doesn't have problems.

Granted, yesterday was decent. Streaming and browsing were both good.

Fair enough but he does everything in his own capacity and doesn't have to yet always gives us info we wouldn't otherwise be able to get [big things now that IPC prices dropped]. Am merely speaking based on my experience with him and can only hope it gets better for you :/.

Have they provided any test accounts? I was given a temporary account that worked for all sites last week and sent through results on FB. I can give you our personal account details if you think there might be a difference. Got about 13.58GB left.

I always believe there is a chance for them to fix things, the most difficult part is how and when :(.

Thanks, might take you up on that offer in order to test. On the phone with them now and I seem to have reached a competent chap.

I agree, he has been helpful to me too. But that was over a year ago, and the replies are more and more generic and deflective nowadays. I don't think I've actually seen him fix anything for a while now. Anyway, side issue.

They've recreated my service, will see how it goes.

Holding thumbs it gets fixed so keep us updated here please.

Are you sure you haven't used your quota? Once your quota is used up, you will be throttled to 384k for most packages, and that looks to be about your upstream speed. Don't know why your downstream is so slow, but maybe you have other traffic?

Telkom Internet capped went to the dogs around 1 year ago. It used to be so good, unshaped 24/7, then suddenly it all went pear.

I have a 50GB account as part of my 10Mbps line bundle, but never use it because it's so bad.

ranger has been of no help whatsoever, in fact useless. Pity.

I've now been holding on the line for 20 minutes. I load the agent chat app, and it either doesn't load, fails, I get disconnected, etc.

I signed up for a Smart Home Advanced (4Mb 20GB softcap) 24 month contract in January. It seemed like a bargain with all the "free" stuff, and the unlimited Night Surfer, which I planned on making use of for all my P2P needs.

I'd used Telkom Shaped data between 2009 and 2011, and it was pretty much always unshaped, so from that experience, I was confident that this service was right for me.

Long story short, the service quality was so terrible, that I cancelled the contract within the cooling off period and happily gave back all of the "freebies".

It wasn't for lack of trying though, I explained my situation, and got a response from someone by the name of Yazied Salasa, who basically told me the performance I was getting was perfectly normal and completely acceptable.

This to me was the biggest "**** you" I have received from any ISP thus far.
