Telkom Internet Softcap Feedback

They don't have to do anything physically at the exchange, the last time i upgraded my line from 2mb to 4mb it took less than 24 hours for the change to take effect

Not always true. Some DSLAMs can only handle a max of 4Mbps. If there is a better DSLAM/IMX/ISAM/MSAN in the exchange then a techie will have to physically re-jumper your connection to route to one of them.

Yes agree. i that case you screwed.

Is it my imagination or do they throttle the midnight to 7am speeds as well once you get softcapped? :(

Yes they do. Maybe do a Topup with 1GB for R19 to get full speed back then you can make use of nightsurfer at full speed.

No, it's not your imagination...
Argh, BitComet doesn't shut down sometimes at 7am, hence I went over my 10gb cap. Not sure why. Perhaps it needs to be restarted each time?

I'll probably rely on my FNB Connect account instead then.. Only 9 days left in the month and I'm running out of HDD space anyways :p

Best is to wait to month end for the new cap to arrive. I ran out of data during a month and doing this 1GB topup didn't help.

What's with the titracker? It's gone titsup for me:

Ranger adding features again?

Edit: Seems OK now. Was playing up yesterday as well. Couldn't log in.

PS: What a quiet thread this is ... :D

Thank you

Your line stats looks very good. I doubt it is a line issue. It might be a shaping issue. Have you tried using a different with your usenet server.

I use sunnyusenet too but use it on port 443 with SSL enabled and I get great speeds no matter what time so I suggest you try that.

Using 563 ssl will try 443 and then 119 and see how it goes thank you for the suggestion.

Tried all ports no difference. Strange don't use torrents but loaded 1 up and even that was running at 1 MB/s now. Will probably have to test with different news server.

Can somebody tell me how the Do Gaming add on works.
I've just upgraded to a 20mb line with a 50gb cap, I paid for the Do Gaming add on because I was under the impression that any data downloaded from PSN, Steam or Xbox Live would be uncapped yet I started downloading a game on PSN and its deducting from my 50gb cap?

Can anyone comment if this issue has been fixed? Also contemplating on buying this Do gaming add on because I use most of my cap on PSN.

Just a small bump, connected just after 12am to use NS and noticed speeds were around 10-40% of our 10Mbps line. Switched back to another provider and all was good. Did not change back this morning to see if it is resolved but any info why this was happening would be welcomed :).

As was mentioned in the other thread, the Do Gaming Addon is now gone, are we going to see a comeback? 7 hours to download at night is not cutting it for steam and PSN/XBL :).

Am looking forward to any other changes Telkom Internet has for us. The service works great when it does ;)

Why is the dota 2 ping so bad on Telkom? It's at least double all of the other isps on my line, but can often be worse than that. I'm in cpt if that helps...

On EU servers? I don't play dota but I remember a while back when I did try it the local servers was hosted by Mweb and Telkom was never really peering well with Mweb.

EU servers in league of legends gets me about 205ms ping and very stable too.

Ya, looks like it could be. I play on sa servers and the ping can be well over 100 sometimes. I guess it could be the peering with mweb as mentioned too

Mweb peering has been a issue from what i recall, assuming the servers are hosted there.

Yes they do. Just dial 10210 then option to cancel your line for Telkom Options center... If they ask if you ever had the discount just say no.

This means Do premium only costs R699 - R190 = R509 p/m Unbelievable low price :)

telkom_dsl_discount.png

Anyone else on this deal ? Do premium R699 + 25 % discount for 12 months. That is around R525.00 if I work out correctly. For me its been 3 months now with not 1 month correctly billed. Phoned telkom so many times now not fun. Just curious if anyone have similar problems and if so did you get it resolved ? 1 other forumite confirmed same problems via pm :)
