... Torrents seemed to be 100% throttled until 10pm since beginning of May. Telkom must have changed there throttles on P2P but if you had to ask they would probably say nothing is wrong on their side.

Must be your choice of torrents, I can max out UK & Aus/NZ torrents on my 4Mbps line during the day. US torrents are little slower because it's night time over there and the majority don't bother seeding then :)

Then i think i'm doing something very wrong, i've been singing this song since mid May, so i thought i'd ride it out till June and then come the beginning of June the speeds should be back to normal again, i even gave it a day or 2 and started my Downloads yesterday, added 2 perfectly good torrents, healthy and Everything, besides the fact that it took close to 10 minutes to actually start downloading "Kept saying Downloading Metadata", then when the download eventually started, avg speed of 0.5Kbps...

@MickZA, any chance you could maybe give me a run down of your settings in uTorrent, and DNS and other settings for me to try on my side, could maybe that my settings are screwed up....???

Hi
I have switched to a Do Uncapped Premium Plus 10Mb line package as from the 1st of June which presents a overall cost saving to me. My initial impressions is that the download speeds (between 4-10mb) together with upload speeds are good. Downloads from the news.saix.net server is flying especially early in the morning. I have not tried any torrents as yet.

A disappointment for me is video streaming from Youtube which is puzzling. On the Youtube.com site, streaming even at 360 res during the early evening causes severe buffering then another video at around the same time will play at 480res or 750HD continuously without any buffering. What I have noticed, is that with servere buffering, the 480 res is 'greyed-out' when choosing the resolution. A Youtube video stream from another website has exactly the same problem. What is going on here? are we being selectively throttled when it comes to Youtube streaming or is it a setting that I need to perhaps change. Any help or suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

I've been having the same issues and it's the local caching server that's up to crap, not Telkom itself. I followed this method and everything works perfectly - although downloading videos is a hit and miss thing.

As a linux user I use the transmission bittorrent client so I can't help with uTorrent ... but:

I'm using the TI DNS servers - can't say google's 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 DNS make any difference for me.

Hope the following settings are of help:

Transmission 1.png
check your incoming port is open

Transmission 2.png
don't overdo active downloads

Transmission 3.png
I have temp speed limits turned on during the day so torrents don't impact my normal work - adjust yours to suit your line speed

Transmission 4.png

I keep switching DNS servers every other day to find out that doesn't randomly slow down for this or that website.

Maybe that's the answer right there, Ti hasn't yet found a way to throttle that Torrent client, (Holding thumbs they never do). But i will definitely give this a try tonight, thanks for your help MickZA!

Also, quick q? whats the TI DNS settings? Im using the Google DNS, either that or i leave it blank??

My line just died. I mean, no connection whatsoever. No syncing. In the Willows / Equestria area.

But how many of those 142K seeds have 100% of the torrent? You'll probably find that nearly all have < 10% at this point and only a few above 90%.

Wouldnt be able to give you an exact number but there were quite considerable amount of seeders with 100% especially in the US, saw 5 SA users with 100% but no reqs.

Nah, I know my torrents and what to expect from torrents with good ratio's and lots of seeds, never used be like this, must be regional too because I have family in Limpopo with the same setup and they are not suffering from this problem. You can see the switch get flicked at 10pm. Definitely Telkom shaping since early May.

I'm new to using news servers so can't comment too much on performance but is up and down on my 2Mb uncapped

I love how suddenly they shaping without telling anyone. I was so happy the first few days before this kicked n.

Yup torrents are dead.......

Look like I need to vpn now. :( usenet still seems fine with good speeds.

Doesn't look like they are shaping it they completely killed it. Dead in 10min I did 229KB on a 4Mbps uncapped account. Jeez not even IS is that strict
