Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Just got off the phone with Telkom Technical division. The guy says there are no problems on their side. I tried explaining that I'm not the only person having this problem, but according to him, no one else has raised the same complaint as I have. I pointed him to this post on the forum, but I doubt they will check it. I explained that speed tests are fine and there are no errors on the line. He's now sent the call over to another department for further investigation. That's 3 people in 2 days, and no sign of a resolution.

Ah ok. I've had Afrihost, OpenWeb Gold and Gamersking and Mweb Premium. I prefer to deal with a lack of support than pay more and be shaped daily while I am at it. I guess its a matter of what your needs are. Each to his own as they say ;)

Been apart of this community for ages, decided to make a new account, definitely not new here :)

I am keen to try a new ISP even for a month if its per rata I won't be paying for the full amount anyway
But being with Telkom is driving me to the edge, when it comes to support there literally is none.

I cannot believe with so many people having issues, that they cannot figure out something is wrong. I can only guess, that every time someone complains to a support staff member, they say "Sorry, no one else is experiencing problems" and never log a fault. Thus, even if 20 people phoned about it, not single fault will be logged and the staff will keep saying the same thing. :erm:

The only things I would be requiring on a day to day basis is streaming during the day at 480p and downloading at night 2mb

I'm trusting OpenWeb 2mb Gold would allow for this

Im on mweb, browsing (local & int.) and youtube seems very sluggish although speedtest indicates a 1.29Mb/s...very strange.

Just had an interesting session with Telkom Internet support. I explained the problem with http being slow and torrents fast, and she told me that there was a fair usage indicator on my profile indicating high usage and that I was being "slowed down"

I told her my usage so far per the saix tracker only shows 69 GB and I have used far more in the past.

She told me she was going to escalate the matter and gave me a reference number.

I suggest you phone them and check if you have the same problem, as it could be a fault on their systems that is causing the problem. Don't know why it would only affect HTTP and not torrents, but most of my download are through HTTP so they could be blocking particular protocols.....

I left MWEB for that specific reason of them throttling youtube(though they always deny it). I joined TI and have never been throttled on youtube ever. For now (and hopefully going forward), TI rocks! :)

Sorry for the silence from my side. We have been doing a lot of work over the past 4 weeks.

Since last night, we have been investigating some performance problems, and about half an hour ago, we found that one of the changes we made (either early this morning, or the previous morning) has impacted the experience for everything but P2P negatively.

We made some emergency changes, for Northern and Eastern regions at 14h20, and for Southern regions at 14h30.

As far as we can tell, this has massively improved the experience for web browsing, http/ftp downloads, video streaming etc.

Please let me know if your experience has improved.

The call centre management were on the email thread about performance problems, and they claimed they were unaware of any problems :-/.

You are heaven sent. Thank you Ranger :D

Things are definitely much better for me. MUCH. Perhaps still not quite what they should be but the crawling is gone and I can actually think about downloading E3 trailers again.

Thanks for the info, ranger :)

Ranger has been Mia for quite some time :(

Been trying to keep up with new posts, but haven't had sufficient time to answer adequately.

Besides the issue from yesterday, we are aware that other changes during May have impacted P2P negatively, however we have some other changes that are being tested (which require the data provided by the change implemented in the early hours of Tuesday morning) that should improve P2P again, so we didn't want to do any short-term fixes.

If testing goes according to plan, we should be applying these changes over the coming weekend.

Thanks for your input.

Diablo 3 latency (to EU server) is still more than double what I normally get (typical is around 220 ms).

Downloading a Youtube video gets around 300 KB/s where earlier, it was around 38 KB/s.

That is great news as well. Thank you for taking the time to get back to us. :)

Still rubbish for me.

Huge improvement in Youtube streaming.

The following videos defaulted to 480, but I could watch 720p with problem. Could not watch in 1080p, but I never can without buffering issues.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qXeeDTZg6Tk

Videos ran between 250 - 300 kB/s

Haven't done any other form of downloads today.

I see there is a 900MB update for DC Universe, so will try that a bit later.

Edit:
Looking at my speedtest, it will be a long download on a 4 Mbps line.

Thanks ranger for trying to help. I can confirm that YouTube is still hardly usable for me, in KZN.
