Understandably, I may not have the greatest line in the world, nor the fastest, and many factors effect the quality of it. What speeds should I be getting on TI uncapped 10mbps? The maximum I have ever reached is 740KB/s. The average is about 500KB/s. My line stats:
Mode:ADSL_2plus*
Type:ATM
Status:Up*
*
*DownstreamUpstream
Line Coding(Trellis):On*On*
SNR Margin (dB):101*77*
Attenuation (dB):390*204*
Output Power (dBm):0*127*
Attainable Rate (Kbps):13272*1076*
Rate (Kbps):10015*1019*
D (interleaver depth):1*1*
Delay (msec):0.19*0.24*
*
HEC Errors:0*0*
OCD Errors:0*0*
LCD Errors:0*0*
*
Total ES:815*0*

I have not been throttled yet according to the Telkom do site (green bar).

Thanks.

Local and international speeds?

Go here - http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/

Type in your phone number, and you'll get to see the max speed your exchange supports.

Where it says "ADSL is available in your area", there will be a hyperlink with your exchange name listed. click it, and you will see all the details ;)

Cool post... at lease now I know which exchange is feeding me lol

I don't get it, Internet in general is fine at the moment, just the torrent throttle is a pain in the ***.

Saturday it was slow during the day but got going close to full line speed in the evening.

Sunday it was good most of the time, dropped to 1KBs for a few hours in the afternoon, and then started to spike at 3000KBs in short bursts in the evening......That is a little crazy for a 2Mbs line. (No, not a typo - 3000 Kilo Bytes /s)

Monday, torrents were flying at full speed during a work day and then got switched off at about 6pm, and now we are crawling again at about 2Kbs.

This is obviously throttling from the ISP, but why at those times and why to almost a complete block of torrent service?

@gsm500 , ranger has always made it clear that ALL p2p traffic is shaped during business hours and i believe this is a standard practice among all ISPs here.

I think ranger made a mention of some IPC that was added this weekend so when fine tuning the network , the floodgates open up :D but when it is performing as expected (HTTP fast but p2p slow) then they closed it :p.

Not trying to defend them but p2p has always been given low priority (during business hours) especially since businesses need the extra capacity.

Granted, i do hope we see a day that this isn't needed and we get multiple GBits of bandwidth lit up ;-)

FFS!This is just pathetic!I tried to play a match of LOL for the first time in weeks and 5 min into the game boom!500ms and huge packet loss!I have had it with this trash isp!Well done telkom you piece of sh*t you are officially the most pathetic isp in sa i will never recommend them to anyone(except people i dont like and want them to experience this agony).I'm sorry but this is just so infuriating,I have hoped to avoid this but guess im going to have to go through the crap process of changing isp's oh the joy!

Same problems here. Getting a grand total of 40KB/s :D

So what has happened now?

Something changed? Setting tweaked on Telkom's side?
It was fine for entire week and now I come home to not even been able to load local pages at times....
I got to a point that my net was not usable till 10:30 pm (I'm paying over R1000 and I accepted that I was limited to internet usage ... haha sad but that aint my complaint)..

What changed Ranger? I see you're online now (at the time of this post).
Anyways post a Trace Route to a site I saw done in a previous post:

My main question though, if it would ever be answered...
Is this what uncapped is to be like for Telkom for now?
Am I to pay over R1 000 a month, that I can even browse the web without hoping that when I launch my browse I will be able to load sites or watch Youtube without it buffering @ 360p

I've been with Telkom since 07, I don't really want to go to another ISP...
Seriously I don't but I just want to know, is this what R1 000 gets me with Telkom and how long with this type of service last?

And now it's fine again....

@Yuu, I agree, my problem is they are giving P2P Bandwidth during business hours and then cutting it at night which is the strange thing. I throttle P2P myself during the day, I get upset because when I expect it to fly, its cut.

Browsing became very slow last night around 11pm. Haven't checked this morning yet.
