Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Still struggling as well.
Gaming is bad.
I can't do speedtest, accept on the saix.net local only site, but anything international is crawling for me.

Nothing is fixed. Int is crawling and my pings are higher on telkom than with WA.

Please provide a trace to a site that is slow (e.g. international). A trace from Belville to Centurion doesn't help much with international.

Some international sites are ok, some are not. E.g. google.com is ok, bbc.co.uk is bad. We know where the problem is ad have escalated to IPNet.

Thanks Ranger for all the info.

I am not faced anymore. I have come to realize there is no ISP that can get their shiz right.
I have used Afrihosts business uncapped and am back on it right now. The fact that they dont have a CT IPC peewed me off the most, as all our servers are in CT and I just enjoy the <10ms to our servers. With AFrihost we get 55-70. Now with Telkom I get 32-40ms. As you can see in my trace above, hop 6 goes from 10 to 33. Is that also just temporary?

MWEB has their shiz right, tried them?

Morning Ranger
:)

Hope my info can be beneficial to both of us, but the International sites have definitely improved overnight for me.
The general latency still sucks for me though.

I am not faced anymore. I have come to realize there is no ISP that can get their shiz right.

A *huge* migration is difficult to get right ... I think our is bigger than Afrihosts was, though I am not 100% sure ... and so far I think ours isn't going too badly. Except that a few of us haven't slept much in the past 60 hours ...

I don't think MWEB's migration was in such a hurry as either Afrihost or ours (we are in a hurry as we have commitments regarding IP addresses which we need to return ....).

From hop 5 to 7 you are going from Belville to Rosebank. Light takes 4.3ms to travel the distance, a reasonable latency for packets to travel both directions is 20ms. So, this aspect probably won't get much better.

What latency are you getting to your servers in CT?

Morning Ranger
:)

It's morning? What day is it? :-p

The general latency still sucks for me though.

It takes you 168ms to get to Belville, where it takes MickZA something lke 60ms. Initially this looks like DSLAM congestion ....

Lol @ Ranger.
Had a rough night?
;D

iirc your fault has been escalted to Tier 2...
I'm not sure Mickey, could be? I'm not familiar with the various terms or wording that Telkom use.

I have a fault open and someone has phoned me the last 2 days from Cape Town.
Apparently he rerouted something and I was supposed to give feedback yesterday, but I missed his calls.
I didn't notice much difference after his first call, but my pings have dropped from 413 Ms to about 375 ms after the migration on the 1st of Feb.

I was given this info about a week ago:
Your escalation reference number is ARS 219966.

and I have this fault open:
12BEK201212

I'm glad to see that someone is looking into my problems and I hope it can be resolved.

At the moment I'm posting feedback during this 4 days of maintenance, just in case it can help Telkom and myself of course.

It is not meant as negative critique.

Nice changes, ping to UK has dropped dramatically:

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.241.131] with 32 bytes of data:

So I changed to the 4meg Uncapped service yesterday morning but it's still not active. How long does it usually take, and the lady I spoke to says you still keep the same password as I was on the 4meg 20gb service is this true.

Mine was immediately active and I received a temporary password.
I did change before the rush though.

Should be done the same day. PM me your username, and if someone from billing is around tonight, I'll have him look at it.

Slightly OT but do you know if they have resolved the moving mailboxes between accounts issue as yet?

Any idea how I can add an alias to my email address. I lost a email address in the migration to Uncapped (did not want to have a separate mailbox for it), and cannot seem to find where I can do it online.

I think it was fixed, but then another change (e.g. allowing staff at TDS shops to add/remove aliases, do upgrades downgrades themselves) seems to have introduced some new issues. I don't know whether the issues include the moving, or if those crop up some other way, but there are definitely some problems still. I think they are busy testing fixes for these problems, but I am not sure of the progress.

At present, it isn't possible to do this yourself online. Please send a ticket to support at telkomsa dot net with your username, and the alias that got lost. You should get a ticket number back, PM me the ticket number so I can ensure it receives the attention it deserves.

Thanks, will get hold of support. Just want to make sure first that I really need it (it gets a lot of spam).

My telkom account has been up and down like a thai hooker between last night and today...
