Same with me, I'm in Pretoria East and my torrents are extremely slow any time of the day for around 2 months. Normal downloads appear to be fine. This is not the way it used to be from Telkom, they said the only shaping was time based and torrents used to run well all day if I would let them.

There is no question that Telkom is strangling torrent downloads. It must be regional, not everyone is experiencing these lousy DL speeds on torrent. Telkom............................used to could.................

How are the downloads after hours

I'm quite happy with TI as my ISP. There've been some issues here and there, but the good outweighs the bad, in my case anyway. Can't comment on torrents, because I don't use them, but I haven't had any problems for a long time with http dl's. Line always performs at full speed at pretty much any part of the day I've needed to use it. I schedule the big dl's for after 11pm, as advised, but even when I've needed to download at any time, it's been fine. Give TI a try. Sign up for 12 months and reap the benefits of a 25% discount ;)

Thanks for the info so far :) How about their throttling policy? Or don't they throttle? And shaping?

Brand new account and struggling to download a Linux OS through BitTorrent

I see torrents drop to 10kbps at about 730am. If my queue doesn't finish between 12 and 7am then I usually have to wait until the same time the next day as they don't make much progress during the day.
I'm still in the green, done less than 80gb on 4mbps account this month so far. Been my experience since day 1 this month.

Bump... sent to telkomza also to investigate.

Bump... sent to telkomza also to investigate.

Hops 2 and 3 seem to point to some congestion at your exchange.

TelkomZA will probably confirm that.

I'll see you in that queue waiting for our exchange to be upgraded :p

Just got a response now from him, no congestion, cant see anything wrong, but he reset my port and gave me a test account, will have a look when I get home if theres a difference. ...

Did TelkomZA even look at your tracerts LOL

I'm pretty sure that 558ms on hop 2 (international)shows some kind of congestion at the exchange.

But then again I dont work for Telkom what would I know :p

I have yet to feel the brunt of their throttling policy. I average under 100GB on my 2MB Uncapped, and have never been throttled. Did about 120GB for September though, but still no issues. Usage bar is always well in the green. General consensus is you could easily do around 150-200GB on a 2MB Uncapped before you risk being throttled. I can't tell you for sure though, as I've never pushed my account that far. I'm sure one of the other members here can advise better on that.

I'm on a 2MB uncapped and haven't been throttled yet either. I did well over 200GB on a few occasions. I think the ceiling is around the 250GB margin but if you schedule your bulk downloads between 00:00 - 06:00 you should be able to get more than that.

Nope, sorry guys.
I can do 300gb and still be in the orange on a 2mb account.
I just think we don't push it because we all think we're going to be throttled.
Try for yourself.

Good gosh man 300GB LOL
Are you doing alot of downloads during the "free time"?

In September I wanted to check what was possible.
I didn't schedule anything really.
Just downloaded what I wanted when I wanted.

At times I had the dl running 24/7.
No change to my line speed and as stated above, I was still in the orange.

My girlfriend did 350gb two months back and was never throttled. 2mb account. The Tit/Rack-er indicated that she was throttled which was not the case. Last month she did close to 200gb.

I do about 5gb a month on my 1mb.

I hope the Mweb'ers and Afrihost'ers don't frequent this thread :D

When your upload speed is faster than your download speed, you know there's something wrong:
