That 2nd hop is ridiculous man! Your exchange is definetly congested or they could be working on it doing upgrades.

I been finding I have to reboot my router at least once a day and my pings have been very erratic, anywhere from 29ms to 500ms.
I called Telkom and they said there are currently upgrades going on at my exchange and it will be like this for a few weeks.

Give them a call, its free and wont hurt.

Thank's guys. Guess I'll take a look at it again tomorrow, else ring them up!

Just hit one full hour of on the line with 10210.. theres a local exchange down the road that is going to lose its windows right now! fken pathetic bunch of time wasters.....

i put my cordless phone down with the call still going in background... walked to the local exchange and made a nice cross on the window to aim at... walked the 500M back and im still holding... 1 hour 12 minutes... You guys recon i must go back and throw that brick and return to my call ? :D

I hate to break it to you but you might have to call again during office hours

Gaming is beyond useless tonight, my ping in dota 2 was >500ms the entire game but If I ping the server the latency is low, same with teamspeak, I ping the server and its low but teamspeak registers its high. The traffic management system is stuffed. I am on a capped account too so I should be getting the best results

last time i phoned i got helped after 30 minutes and that was at 7:30pm... doesnt give you operating hours and i have phoned plenty of times outside of office hours...

OK. So I'm not a Telkom Uncapped subscriber but for the past 3 nights in a row I've been having latency problems.

I think adsl support line on 10210 is 24/7. Only account related stuff ect is business hours. I stand to be corrected though. :)

what is the news server address for telkom internet users??
news.saix.net does not seem to work
news.telkomsa.net does though, but its very erratic!!

:erm: That shows us that you are on the Internet Solutions network and not Telkom. I think you are barking up the wrong tree here...

Maybe you should change the account configured on your router to the new Telkom one...

A traceroute on the Telkom network would look something like this,

Code:
[xxxx@obelix ~]$ traceroute www.bbc.com
traceroute to www.bbc.com (212.58.246.94), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1 * * *

But ja it's always poor Telkom's fault :p

I just need a bit of advice ...

I've been upgraded to 4Mb Uncapped from 2Mb, but I'm only able to sync at 3Mb. Call Centre agent told me there's a lot of noise on my line, so dispatched a Telkom technician to investigate. He came over, and found no problems. I'm about 1Km from the exchange. Just wanting to know, could it possibly be my router that's causing the problem ? Had it since 2008'ish. Just curious before I buy a new one. I have a Tenda. Not sure of the model, but like I said, it's roughly 5 years old now. Don't really know of anyone near me whose router I can borrow to test with either.

Disconnect all filters/phones/faxes/alarms etc from the line and check your adsl stats on the router. Disconnect the router and plug in the phone, press '0' to get rid of the dial tone and listen for noise on the line. If the noise is still there get telkom to fix it and dont back down. If you plug a filter in and noise starts or gets worse replace it. I doubt it your router but plug it in and see if noise gets worse or stays the same.
