I haven't used saix for nzb lately as I have a usenetbucket account
I noticed last night that saix clearly shapes nntp downloads.
4mb line was downloading at around 250kb/s whereas my usenetbucket account downloads at full speed normally around 433kb/s.

Just food for thought really.

No. of connections?

Ok so I just saw this price for the bundled telkom 4mb uncapped account.

This looks like a really good deal, any insight if this is worth it? I'm a heavy downloader/games/streamer and use P2P services a lot. I'm currently on the MWEB 2mb premium account. Is this worth it?

Dont forget to add the compulsory analogue telepne connection to that R459.
Still a sweet deal euther way.
Dont expect any sort of good P2P download rate during business hours, those days are gone :(

I ordered my line and uncapped product about a week ago. They lady informed me that they will charge prorata from the moment I connect for the first time. Hope this helps.

thanx. ja plus the payment for the next month probably. the first bill is usually the big one. I hope I can stream on this 4mb

Have you left OW now Akescpt?
I'm sure your streaming will work great on 4MB. There are some guys having issues but thankfully my only issue is torrents.
I stream 720p with my 4MB line 2MB account combo without any problems.

25 connections on usenetbucket with a 1100 days retention for the low low price of R42.50.

I get 50 connections on astrawebnews. paid about R500 for a terabyte. can use it whenever my default local server doesn't have the files.

I have cancelled yes. very hard decision but im checking out other isp's for a while. im not doing a lot of downloading anymore. streaming has become more important to me currently so I need to pursue that. I might even end up cancelling the cancellation but at the moment I don't want to pay so much for a shiny gold account that will allow me to stream. my internet should stream whenever I need it but it doesn't.

ill be investigating capped options as well. but theres been some good feedback here around streaming so im holding thumbs for telkom. its the best priced as well.

Not sure if tweaking the system but websites are opening rather quick. Please be this fast for tomorrows local PS4 launch :D

Give Ti a try if its niot to your liking you can just cancel, I dont think there's a30day notice since you oay upfront for your ADSL ie. payment on 25th november is for decembers access.

Try a lower 2MB account if you wanna save bucks while testing. With your 4MB line you will still stream 720p without issue.
Electric has the same setup and he can confirm this.

Total for my last bill was R560, including some calls that were billed for.

I don't quite understand the benefit of 50 connections over say 25.
Care to explain?

The more simultaneous connections the higher the throughput. But 25 connections should be enough to max out a 10MB line.

I can confirm the streaming on a 4mb is great.
I was downloading at 350b/s and streaming off hulu at the same time yesterday evening.
Smooth as can be.

25 connections maxes out a 4mb so I can't imagine more connections being of any benefit to me.
Astraweb would only benefit me with a longer retention base.
I might consider it the start of next year.
Once of payment is also pretty good.

I'm considering doing the same akescpt so if you can post your experience here compared to OpenWeb, especially during weekdays, I'd really appreciate it!

What account were you using? Gamers King 2Mb here.

With 350kbps download that leaves you with around 100kbps line speed overhead for the concurrent hulu stream - it must have been a low quality feed ?

Watching in browser on PC ?

Surprisingly it wasn't as bad as you'd think.
I wasn't watching though, my son was.
He doesn't know the difference between 480p and 720p anyway.
Which is why I chose to download at the same time.
If I'm watching then hulu stays on the HD setting.

Watching in browser, yes.
But connected via HDMI to TV.

Hi people.

So I cancelled everything with Afrihost and my line rental is being moved back to Telkom.

Few quick questions as I am considering Telkom Internet.

How are they with shaping/throttling?

And streaming real time services and gaming online?

I download on average about 200gigs a month and I have a 10mbps line and want to keep it that way.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
