Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

I honestly don't think this is the issue.
There is clearly a problem and I don't doubt Telkom are working on it.
Things have not been this bad before for me.
I don't think it's coincidence that international traffic works flawlessly during the wee hours when the load is lighter but steadily degrades as the day goes on.

The very high latency after about 4PM is indicative of excessive load. If it were any other issue I am pretty sure there would have been word already but seeing as it's been all mute I'd wager that it's capacity related. ISP's don't want to admit they don't have the necessary capacity.

That said, I believe their upgrades will continue from the 15th meaning the network freeze comes to an end. Hopefully additional capacity goes live then.

I also think this is what is going on.
I played a game last night and latency was between 680 and 720ms.
Then played with my backup account and latency was 250ms.

I had terrible ping on the local CS:GO server last night - made it mostly unplayable. Pings ranged from 15ms-300ms. Everyone with Telkom as their ISP was bitching about it. Someone even said they're officially shaping gaming traffic. If this is the case, I, and a lot of other people, will be taking our business elsewhere.

An official response would be great, btw.

Are others people still having gaming ping problems? For the last two evenings I couldn't play DayZ, the pings are erratic ranging anywhere ~50-400 on TI 2mb uncapped....

I have to use another ISP account if I want to play.

Has anyone had any success with TelkomZA? I feel like surely they must know about the problem but they just don't want to keep us informed about it.

More knee jerk responses.

It is clearly a problem with night time international traffic.
Not shaping your gaming.
Read the last few pages of this thread to see what the problems are.

Don't think they're shaping the traffic. If they were then latency wouldn't spike. Also, if they were to implement shaping it would require them to change the coding of their shaping policy which is not possible due to the network freeze.

What's happening is that everybody is contending for the available bandwidth thus causing the latency spikes.

Also been monitoring the situation closely on my side. Was getting 150ms @ 3.8mbps on a speedtest to London at around 8:45am, ever since then it's been slowly climbing and now sitting with 572ms @ 2.4mbps to the exact same server :/

This is my first month on Telkom so not a very good introduction to the service! Hoping this is just a coincidence and they sort it out soon. Came from MWeb which had a mostly flawless connection over the past couple years, but wanted to try save costs.

edit: 1.5mbps now...

Why does TelkomZA not monitor this thread and provide feedback?

I would just like a response. Communication is key in Customer Service. Phoned Telkom twice (unable to provide any answers) which is what I quite frankly expected from them. Having PM'd Ranger and TelkomZA I thought we may have least have got some inkling from them. Appears they are MIA.

Same. If they just gave a response at least saying "this is what's wrong, we're dealing with it" I'd be fine with that. I think what almost everyone wants is just some clarity. I've also waited patiently, then phoned Telkom, SMS'ed them and PM'ed TelkomZA with no luck. I get that fixing it might take time and I'd have no issue waiting for that if I knew what was going on. But with no communication, Telkom must understand users' frustrations...

Telkom are not exactly known for giving a accurate response to the problem, usually, various excuses are given until the problem is magically resolved, and if previous experience is anything to go by, it takes a week to two weeks.

Telkom customer for 2 days. I am so unimpressed. I am downloading CS:GO full speed (380/390kbps) right now. However YouTube, Twitch, imgur. Slow as 384k

Welp, I'm also seeing quite a few issues today with latency. Downloading from PSN is complete ass, streaming anything that isn't youtube is a pain and game pings for locally hosted matches are usually pretty high, on the order of 100ms or more.

Hoping that this gets fixed soon. My Afrihost capped account pretty much runs like greased lightning.

YouTube is fine for me on 1080p with a 10Mbps line. Think YouTube is local traffic.

Any other streaming is broken though.

Ditto. Granted Afrihost is capped my side, but R58 spent with them for a few GB's is so much better than the nonexistant speeds from TI uncapped atm. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Yeah, I watch obscure YouTube channels, I would bet an arm and a leg that these videos are not distributed anywhere nearby. "popular" videos stream ok, I buffer on 360p on most videos which is shameful.
