Quick question, is international always this slow?

I'm only getting 20-30kB/s on a 1Mb/s line?

Is this normal?

What are you downloading?

I'm just trying libre office and some linux distros via international servers with wget. No torrents or anything like that.

Updating my linux install the repo lists come down at 13-22kB/s while the actual package downloads are under 30kB/s.

WTF? If this is normal then it's a schite service!

Can you pause your downloads and do an international speedtest?

EDIT: Results from mybroadband speedtest - International

Your Latest Results

Test conducted on Friday, May 10, 2013 3:09:28 PM

Download Speed: 1670 kbps (208.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 235 m

I'm on a 2MB account. I dont seem to have any problem with International right now

Orange means they're watching you (has a message to that effect as well), with red they start throttling your speed and I believe you get an email to that effect as well.

Watching you for specific activity or throttling purposes?

Don't have any downloads running.

Download Speed: 880 kbps (110 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 252 kbps (31.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 240 ms

This however does not correspond to what I'm experiencing with normal downloads or system updates etc. The above actually looks fine for daytime usage but like I said it only seems true for the test.

Its possible the servers you downloading from could be low on bandwith.

Ranger, any problems with international???

Nope, some of them are massive international mirrors and no matter which I try the end result is the same. If I switch to another isp account they work fine...

I think you should PM Ranger and let him have a look. You should definitly not be experiencing such slow speeds.

I'm downloading a 24GB Mame pack (torrent) with a terrible seed2peer ratio and still getting over 100kbps

Private trackers? How do they differ from the normal Trackers?

They are special interest trackers; TheBox.bz does UK TV (Soaps, Morse, Lewis, Endeavour etc) and TheEmpire.bz does Commonwealth TV in the same vein.

You have to maintain a set ratio (or purchase GBs) and follow the rules:

Do not defy the staff's expressed wishes!
Using a proxy can and will get your account disabled, unless you have Admin permission to use a proxy.
Never use a modified client or any other method to cheat on your stats. This will get your account disabled immediately.
Creating more than one account or attempting to create more than one account per household will result in all of your accounts being disabled and access to the site permanently revoked.
If someone's account is disabled, do not give them an invite to let them back in. Doing so will put your own account in jeopardy.
Do not share your account with anyone.
Using another user's passkey or .torrent files for downloading and/or uploading will result a permanent ban.
Requests: must be a User or higher to make a request. Before adding a request, please check that the show you want isn't already claimed by our cappers. If our cappers have claimed it, don't place a request because it will be deleted. The Capping Schedule lists shows claimed by our cappers. Repeated requests and spamming in the forums for requests or shows that are claimed will also get you a warning.
Do not upload our .torrent files to other trackers! Only registered users can use our tracker. Posting our .torrent files on other trackers is useless, since most people who attempt to download them will be unable to connect with us. This generates a lot of frustration and bad-will against TheBox, and will therefore not be tolerated. Any user found leaking .torrent files will be permanently banned. Complaints from other sites' administrative staff about our torrents being posted on their sites will result in the banning of the users responsible.
If you choose to upload our files elsewhere, you must provide attribution to our site and the capper, i.e. "Thanks to fredblogs (name of original uploader) at thebox.bz". Failure to do so will result in you being banned from the site.
This is a torrent tracker, don't upload files elsewhere and post links to them. The first time you'll be warned; the second time, banned.
Never post a spoiler anywhere (torrent comments, shoutbox, IRC channels, or the forums -- unless it's in the spoiler forum or #thebox-spoilers on IRC). A spoiler is classed as anything that would give the end result away OR give away a surprise. First offense is a 1 week warning, second offense is a 2 week warning, and third offense is a ban.
Disruptive behaviour in the forums or on IRC will result in a warning ( ). The number of warnings you are allowed before getting disabled depends on why you were warned. Two warnings is the maximum.

It can be difficult getting started without paying because of the ratio but the more you download and upload the easier maintaining the ratio becomes :)

We are running into some resource constraints on some components on our network. This is having an impact on traffic prioritisation from the afternoon until late evening.

Upgraded units were delivered late last week, and we are hoping to get them in in our Gauteng next weekend, and in Cape Town the week after.

@Ponder
Afternoon till about 22:00
That was post #1810.
The last update regarding this was that Gauteng could be fixed during this weekend, but more likely next weekend, with Cape Town to follow the weekend after.

This is the crap I'm getting,

Speeds are highly erratic and fluctuate a lot jumping all over the show, looks like very bad shaping. I'm use to these valuse sitting at a constant 100K/s region. Opening a large image in a browser is also very jerky, you can see parts loading slow and fast.

Find below result of a speed test i conducted on mybroadband speedtest using a 4MB TI line.:)

Test conducted on Friday, May 10, 2013 6:55:34 PM

Download Speed: 190757 kbps (23844.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 848 kbps (106 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 42 ms

We finished implementation of the first phase of the Gauteng upgrade this morning around 04h00. We believe this should resolve the issues. If everything looks good during the day, we will proceed with the second phase of the upgrade (which is actually more required to prepare for the upgrade of the Cape Town site).

I would value feedback from people who have been experiencing problems.

Struggling on Telkom Internet capped - very slow speeds, very high latency. Local and international.

Please try again, we performed some upgrades early this morning to address an issue that started a few weeks ago (but has really being impacting users during the past week).

Did it affect all users or only TI customers?
