Speedtest.net 6mb down and 1mb up. So why cant I stream youtube and pages are loading very slow. US based Usenet @ 80kbps. :banghead:

Trying to get to the bottom of what's going on with my speeds...

Recent convert to uncapped 4mb line. Having read through some of the recent post, went over to the link of the 'new' tracker, to get an idea of my usage, and found this:

Telkom usage tracker_Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 8.43.38 PM.png

I thought this tracked uncapped users as well? Ideas?

Day 1 - no usage?

My service has also been crappy since yesterday afternoon... speeds suck, browsing retarded, Youtube shyte.

What's wrong, ranger?

Made the switch beginning of last week... should be showing something??

have you done a ping test?

I've just run one - any tips on what I should be looking for?

Internet is crawling... 33.00 ms average for 10 packets - 0.0% packet loss...
Don't know enough to know if that's good or bad...

[Edit]

Just did a traceroute...

So apparently * * * 's are bad - suggests a timeout?

Here be the screenshot - all of them, barring the 1st and last, * * *....:

Joy.

Don't know if OpenDNS would have anything to do with this?

Phone 10210 for a Reset??

Me too... It seems to come and go on public holidays and weekends

Telkom uses Sat3. If Seacom, Wacs or Eassy goes down Telkom users are not affected. I suggest you perform a tracert to a local destination to rule out any congestion on your exchange. Also look at your router stats to check the quality of your line.

It's not congestion cuz it wasn't congestion cuz 1.6MBPS has been my speed since September last year or whenever they did the speed upgrades till round about when all these problems started. Unless my area got like 2000 more ADSL users in the last 2 months.

Router is showing the same line speed as when the speed upgrades happened as far as I remember
DownStream Connection Speed 1528 Kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 511 Kbps

Anyways if it's not Seacom then either that is what happened, sudden congestion...or if I was being throttled that didn't get reset.

As in pingtest.net? Java is hating me at the moment so the test is not grafting.

Apologies for the side-track - but is this what the Traceroute report looks like on your PC? I'm running a Mac, and it's not giving me nearly the same detail levels, although - that could be since everything is timing out...

Looks like your line is syncing slower at 1.5mb, not 2mb. Is your line noisy?

I to am getting very frequent performance issues. Youtube videos stop about a third of the way if they're longer than 4min. PDF downloads are slow. Skype is very laggy. Browsing in general seems less stable than what it was last month.

But everything else is fine. Emails come through, torrents are okay, HTTP downloads do their thing, but everything else goes up and down. Afrihost is better, but does still have its issues now and then. What happened, guys? TI used to be 3G-spankingly good.

Also, when using TI DNS servers, I get slowdowns and Youtube timeouts during the day. When I switch to Google DNS, most things work, but Youtube does timeout and generally all browsing is slow.

@ranger - that little splurb that the titracker website added about continous downloads, what is your suggestion for downloading? Can you download for an hour and then stop for an hour and repeat? Does getting that flag earn you a quicker path up the shaping tree?

How much is 10mb including line and uncapped? Only reason I switched from 4mb is I wasn't really needing the speed

Do Website shows the following

+ Telkom Line Rental

R148.37per month(3)
+ ADSL Line Rental

R425.00 per month
- Do Bundle Discount

R125.00 per month
Total Cost

R1,147.37per month(4)

(3) The Telkom Line Rental cost used may vary according to your status, please view a detailed line rental cost breakdown here.
(4) The total cost indicated here may vary according to your Telkom home line rental fee and does not include voice and fax calls made on this line.

Welcome back MickeyD :D

@whatwhat - from what i understand, your usage for the current month is based on previous usage Post February. There is no fixed amount so download as you will (business hours will be shaped). From this thread, a 2MB uncapped user can use roughly 240GB before being throttled but this is not set in stone. Keep track of your usage on the SAIX site here while also looking at the Ti usage tracker.

Hopefully more info can be shared if the above is not good enough :).
