Apologies for the side-track - but is this what the Traceroute report looks like on your PC? I'm running a Mac, and it's not giving me nearly the same detail levels, although - that could be since everything is timing out...

Yup, standard Windows traceroute.

It's not congestion cuz it wasn't congestion cuz 1.6MBPS has been my speed since September last year or whenever they did the speed upgrades till round about when all these problems started. Unless my area got like 2000 more ADSL users in the last 2 months.

Router is showing the same line speed as when the speed upgrades happened as far as I remember

Anyways if it's not Seacom then either that is what happened, sudden congestion...or if I was being throttled that didn't get reset.

There is no way you can achieve a download speed of 1.6Mbps as your line only syncs at 1528 Kbps which equates to 1.49Mbps and if you take some network overhead into account you probably looking at something in the region of 1.3Mbps, having said that and based on your current download speed your line seems fine.

If you suppose to be on a 2Mbps account your line should sync at 2048Kbps unless you are too far from your local exchange or you line's copper quality prevents you from syncing any higher. In this case you should log a fault with Telkom.

Do Website shows the following

+ Telkom Line Rental

+ ADSL Line Rental

(4) The total cost indicated here may vary according to your Telkom home line rental fee and does not include voice and fax calls made on this line.

Welcome back MickeyD :D

@whatwhat - from what i understand, your usage for the current month is based on previous usage Post February. There is no fixed amount so download as you will (business hours will be shaped). From this thread, a 2MB uncapped user can use roughly 240GB before being throttled but this is not set in stone. Keep track of your usage on the SAIX site here while also looking at the Ti usage tracker.

Hopefully more info can be shared if the above is not good enough :).

Thanks - basically double what I'm paying now... not really worth it for me.

OK, so I've decided to just suck up the fact that I will be paying full price for half a month worth, and given my 10Mb account a few days to fix itself and it's still crap :(

Here are speedtests I did with nothing else running:

Telkom 10Mb: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2683076441.png
Afrihost free GB: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2683083058.png

So it definitely is not my line that is the problem. I generally get between 2 and 4Mb/s in speed tests. I originally thought that it could be daytime shaping, but nightime/weekends are no different.

Call center was of no help either :(

From your tests it is apparent that 10210 have given you a 4Mbps uncapped profile instead of a "up to 10Mbps" profile (Do Uncapped Premium versus Ultimate). As it's only the 2nd of the month you could try asking 10210 to "migrate" you from Premium to Ultimate, when I migrated from 2Mbps to 4Mbps it seemed a pro-rata type of billing involving credits was applied and I didn't pay for two uncapped accounts in that month.

If they say you are already on Ultimate report back and we'll consider which type of escalation would be best to resolve the problem.

Please PM me your username, so I can confirm for you exactly what we have you on.

Yeah, it seems they don't know what uncapped is :-/.

Just don't make the future mistake of thinking that when you cancel a TI uncapped account it still works until the end of the month - it dies when they push the cancel button.

Unfortunately, the (telephone line) ordering system is supposed to coordinate everything, and as far as I know, it has no ability to defer or schedule tasks at present :-/, and even if it did, I think it can't align this with the billing cycle.

Capped accounts might be different as they presumably have to supply you with a finite amount of data (5, 10, 20GB) but I've never checked.

Same problem exists here. However, since no alignment is required in this case, we may be able to defer on our side. We are busy with projects to improve our business process capabilities, but face funding challenges :-/

There is a project to allow pro-rata for uncapped, which should be feasible without any work on our side.

Thanks. I had not considered that this could be a problem because:
a) I got them to confirm the speed before
and b) One out of every 20 speedtests bets about a 7Mb/s.

Not that I am any further after my hour call to them :(.

Trying to get to the bottom of what's going on with my speeds...

Recent convert to uncapped 4mb line. Having read through some of the recent post, went over to the link of the 'new' tracker, to get an idea of my usage, and found this:

View attachment 49068

I thought this tracked uncapped users as well? Ideas?

Apologies for me being here, banging this dead horse - but should I be concerned that I'm still not seeing anything in regards to my usage?

maybe u just not a heavy user :P

Just climbed off the phone with Telkom - and you've hit it on the head. My usage was negligible to the point of not registering on the chart... He actually had a laugh about that, which had me point out that the reason I wasn't doing anything, is because my internet speeds have been only slightly this side of photosynthesis!

Glad I did - he had a look - appears that whereas I was registered for a 4mb line, someone had connected my 'port' (and this is where my knowledge of terminology/jargon departs) through a 10meg channel (or something to that effect)... The two were not playing nicely together, which is why speedtest was showing speeds well in excess of 6,5mbs - but the downloading was happening at a trickle, as evidenced by my ping/traceroute attempts from last night...

He's made the necessary adjustments now, so whereas speed should be down to about 3,5mbs - at least it will run consistently (finger's crossed), and I will actually be able to use it properly now... Only getting home late tonight - but really looking forward to testing it...

Thanks for all the help regardless!

I just teamviewered into my work PC. We are running a Telkom home uncapped there and my torrent is running full speed.

PLEASE whatever you do, do not tell my boss!

Torrent was full speed now gone to 20kb :( Hopefully it's just the torrent.

Yea, I am / was getting really really slow speeds, could barley browse. Have my backup afrihost 1gig going, it is running normal.

LOL, like 4 people later(first 3 said 10Mb/s doesn't exist) I finally am waiting for the account to be upgraded from 4 to 10!

In the meantime though, why has my 4Mb/s account been speedtesting at under 2Mb/s today? Can barely stream internet radio.
