unfortunately i have got the telkom netgear router the afrihost pass/username does not work,as far as i know the router is network locked but thanks anyway.by the way i bet certain grandmasters here wont be able to unlock the router for me so what now i wonder.

What constitutes office hours for fault logging at Telkom these days?

For ISP-related issues, any time, you can use the Report an ISP fault from do.co.za, or send an email to [email protected] . However, it probably won't be looked at before 06h00, and I am not sure even then, due to changes in the call centre's structure ... but PM me the ticket number or the email address you logged it with, and I will see if it's anything I can help with.

For line faults, use the 'Report a line fault' link from do.co.za. For disputes, click the 'My telkom' button, log in, and you can create a billing dispute once logged in (I forget exactly where). You can contact the Telkom Social media team on Facebook or twitter with a reference number for these faults.

So, the upgrade we performed last weekend for the Gauteng site will be repeated this weekend in the Cape Town site.

That may relieve some of the issues for users going through that site (including Eastern Cape and most of the Free State). That site will also be getting a bandwidth upgrade, hopefully before the end of the month (most of the time consuming aspects are in place, we are still sourcing some network interface modules). We will also be able to use some other tools after the upgrades to get a better idea of the user experience (for both sites), probably within the coming week.

So, I am sorry if I haven't been able to investigate specific issues, but we should be in a better position to do so next week, and resolve them shortly after that if they weren't resolved yet.

Hi.... my torrent downloads are also crazy slow, im on a 2meg line isp is telkom in the roodepoort wilropark area... been having this issue since tuesday...

Can't reproduce now, here. I go through the exact same path you go, and a newly published torrent gets to line speed within 30 seconds.

Please post a traceroute when you have this problem, and also 20 pings to rosebank.spdtst.saix.net (e.g. 'ping -n20 rosebank.spdtst.saix.net').

Telkom doesn't 'network lock' routers.

I believe that would be in contravention of the ADSL regulations.

You can do much more than 56GB on 1Mbps uncapped without having FUP enforcement applied.

We may change the way it is enforced in a few weeks (for the better), and other improvements will come later.

WTF? I used to do close to 100GB back in the day on a 384kb/s circuit.

Oh, was there any routine maintenance carried out last knight on BLV 032 946 because my internet went dead.

Thanks for the info. My ADSL was down for an hour. Luckily, it came back. I was worried that office hours meant no chance of ADSL until Monday morning.

Meh... My day to day use, browsing, YouTube, Internet radio is still crap. Can't even stream the lowest quality radio without buffering. Yet my downloads fly at 220KBs

I ran a speed test and my results were 1.23mbps down (154.5 kb/sec transfer rate) and 379kbps (47.4kb/sec transfer rate) latency 44 ms... and its usually abt 1.79mbps.... this issue started heppening Tuesady eve this week, @ around 7pm ish, I called in and askd wats up, agent said wilropark had a outage but its sorted, but my speeds just drop from then on...

My torrent downloads now arr not even running, not even the 0.5kbps, absolutely nothing. It just keeps saying, trying to connect to peers...

Wait... I lied. My uncapped account seems to be capped at some imaginary cap. I'm getting 20kbs on everything. ASA here I come.

Join the club. My 4mb account has been throttled to 1mb on all protocols since the 15th. I did about 450gigs up and down.

We had no changes on our side after Sunday morning. Windows updates had an effect on Wednesday morning, but not Tuesday evening (and it didn't wipe all P2P out ...).

Can you post a traceroute and the output of say 30 pings to rosebank.spdtst.saix.net (e.g. 'ping -n 30 rosebank.spdtst.saix.net' ?

I've done 100 on 2mb according to my monitoring program.

Was trying to sign up to the 2mb/s uncapped R600 bundle

From the Telkom website:
Your exchange supports ADSL
Maximum speed available in your area is 1Mbps
Your current product speed is : 2Mbps

From my router:
DSL
Operational Status G.dmt,SHOWTIME.
Upstream Speed 512 kbps
Downstream Speed 2048 kbps

Hesitant to continue, should I downgrade my line to 1mb/s, or should I believe what my router is telling me?
