My torrents seemed to be faster than news.

I always though SAIX news > IS news.

Think I'll have to try IS again.

well i'm not going to join them!.

i cannot believe that telkom cannot drop their line prices!

they would never change!!!

A very close friend at telkom says, this will never happen cos the money they make is from these.

Hi, I've cancelled my MWEB subscription and thus I am looking for a new ISP to replace

I'm looking at Telkom, Afrihost, OpenWeb, Web Africa, PluGG. And was wondering if I should go telkom route

Are you guys overall satisfied with Telkom?

Look, to answer your question honestly, i was also on MWEB, then i moved to telkom for the 2mbps uncapped line, i done this move Feb '13, and ever since i've been happy with the service, except for the last 3 weeks, my torrents are just crazy slow, i cant even run a Torrent, but over all, ive been happy with Telkom, i really just hope somebody can sort out my current issue...

Are you guys still getting slow speeds today?
Turned a torrent on figuring it would come in at 30-50kb/s or so like some of mine have earlier in the week and instead it just about made browsing impossible coming in at the full 190-212kb/s my 2MB line has to offer.

Torrents seems fine for me, 11:22 and they are still going at it... Everything seems fine.

Just checked mine and they're cruising along at ±40kB/s :erm:

I'm now using my TI 4Mb Uncapped as my primary account for work & play, I've still got my old work TI 20GB Capped account as backup which, with discounts, is costing me about R150/mth but it’s really been redundant since February.

If you're only going to be downloading reasonable gigs for your line speed I'd say go for it, my 4Mb Uncapped seems happy doing 300GB/mth and others have reported more.

What area are you guys in? havent checked mine for the day yet, not at home, and i rather put my pc off, coz it was to sad to watch (excuse the drama) so i cannot remote to check....

@Schumi, arent they maybe just shaping you (IMO its better than being throttled!) have you tried browsing if your uTorrent is closed completely?

@Marty, whats your speed normally? excuse me for being abit blonde, but is that sarcasm?

Not being shaped yet. I get ~210kb/s to do with as I please. If the torrents are off then the browsing is fast, if the torrents are on then they're fast and my browsing is slow. I always thought shaping would mean that browsing and general net activity would be prioritized over torrents so I highly doubt there's any going on here, or at least not yet on my account.

I'm in Durban.

It should be noted though that most of my peers for the torrent in question come from sort of the same time zone, a lot of Germans, Swedes and Russians so they'll generally have their comp on at the same time as me unlike Americans who always vanish during our day.

Yeah I was being sarcastic ...or at least trying to :D I haven't been torrenting *that* much since moving over to TI but my daytime speeds were usually well over 400kB/s when I used to check regularly via TeamViewer.

I'm in Jhb and apparently connected to the HILLBROW (RHBW) Exchange

Just checked again... under 30kB/s now :/

Yours must then be fine now, thats awesome hey... I'd really like to know if mine is ok, only be able to check when i get home.... D@Mit!!
I also download most of my torrents thru those folks, and my torrents are generally very very healthy, i usually download torrents of series that release the following morning, they tend to have alot of seeders, and ive noticed some of my Torrents are uploading high amounts, and downloading very low, even though the Torrent is low.

Im connected to the Roodekrans exchange, in the west of JHB, on a 2Mbps line, i've been getting torrents speeds of max 20Kbps, but the 1st week of my issue i was getting 0.2kbps - 0.7Kbps max! im glad its changed, but still, that extremely slow, its way less then 10% of my actual... And it doesnt even spike, its just constant 20Kbps, it drops yes.... But not higher! I tried logging a fault.... :wtf:

So as a whole most of the guys using Telkom are having little to no shaping/throttling?

Im with openweb but i see R360 for 2mb uncapped is quite a lot more. Telkom is R250

Silly question but are you sure you haven't set a max download speed limit in your torrent client?

When this issue 1st started, i un installed my uTorrent, re installed a fresh copy, randomized the port, and @ 1st i tested a theory (got the idea from a friend of mine, had a 4Mbps line also with telkom, and when ever he runs downloads he's line would actually cut out, drop to zero, not even gradually go down, just drop and would only come right after he restarts his router. This would happen when his downloads go over 250kbps, which is what mine done. he phoned telkom and they said he's area is having issues and he's line is faulty, so he downgraded it to a 2mbps line till its sorted, when i phoned telkom, they told me nothing was wrong with my line which i proved correct when downloading with IDM, coz my downloads are perfect speed) So i tried that, and on uTorrent set my max download speed to 200Kbps, which seemed to have worked for a minute, i was happy because it was better than nothing, then i blinked, and it just went back down to 0.7Kbps, so i figured - That didnt work, and just changed it back to "Unlimited" and still.....

Don't use uTorrent myself - Transmission on Linux instead, but maybe the following is pertinent:

Small enough to run off a USB key, but powerful enough to download any torrent in a jiffy (if it's got enough seeders), uTorrent 2.0 is easy on the eyes and smart on your network. The memory footprint for uTorrent is very small, and system resources are barely touched. While you're torrenting, you shouldn't be surprised to find that other programs that use your Internet connection slow down, but the latest version of uTorrent has an answer to that. Called uTorrent Protocol, or uTP, it's a built-in throttling that detects network congestion and slows down the torrent until the traffic jam has dissipated.

Comments anyone.

I never actually knew that? thanks for that, ill take that into consideration, but i know that theres nothing else at times that use my Internet connection, so i doubt it might be that, also, i have a network meter app that shows total up and down speed, and when i match it to the uTorrent, its identical, so it cant be that, thats the case, i will however look into it, but i doubt it... Thanks again!

mmm depends how much you use really. Its an awesome account (Telkom) but the all you can eat buffet is over. Torrents it appears are shaped to 512 during the day and this is excluding an imaginary Threshold that Telkom has implemented which slows line to 512 regardless of use.

And here I thawt I was the only 1 getting this... but honestly what can be done about it? My torrents speed is nearly non existent!!

Tried this, sad to say it makes no difference! Speed is still the same. Thanks though!
