Speed test result on 4meg account with an 8meg line speed:

I've got a TI Uncapped 4Mbps account on an 8Mbps line and I have *never* seen a speed test result over 4.2Mbps :(

EDIT: Except if I switch to my free Afrihost 1GB account then I see >6Mbps results :/

Our uncapped accounts are shaped to the speed of the account. You buy a 2Mbps account, you get no more than 2Mbps.

If you have any capped account from us, you should get very close to line speed for everything except for P2P during peak times.

I completely understand this but was replying to signates' result of 6.41Mbps on 4Mbps account

The majority of the time you won't but when TI are "tinkering" they often relax the throttling.

Given the fun & games some of you are experiencing ATM (not me fortunately :)) I'd imagine there's a quite a bit of hectic "tinkering" going on behind the scenes.

Would be nice if they tinkered with my line enough to break the throttling :D But yeah... I'll live with my bipolar interwebs connection for now.

@Ranger

Is it possible to get a 2 hour business uncapped account to test if the problem is line related or account related?

Hi Ranger, a while back you posted a procedure to follow, with regards to trying to sort out game latency. I'm afraid I cannot find the post, my apologies.

Spoke to an Telkom ISP tech, who said I needed to contact the ADSL side of things to sort this out.

Which makes no sense whatsoever, as things are perfect with a non TI account...

Spoke to an Telkom ISP tech,

Tech is wrong. We sensitized the call centre to these changes in January, but they restructured in the 2nd week of Jan with no up-front notice, so we may have been speaking to the wrong people ...

We need to verify on our side, and potentially log a request to SAIX if it is routing-related, or ADSL if it is a general ADSL problem.

Please provide detail here so long (which game, which server, your latency numbers, traceroute to the server).

If the traceroute indicates a problem, send email to support at telkomsa dot net, PM me the ticket number you received by auto-reply (or email address you sent from if you didn't get an auto-reply for some reason).

You will see a few complaints about DOTA from users in Cape Town a few posts back. We are investigating this now.

Thanks. :)

Game is Diablo 3.

Server is in the EU, IP address: 213.155.155.233

In-game latency has been in the 600ms+ bracket for the past week or three (prior to that, consistently sub 250ms).

After last night's completely broken internet, it seems to now be around 300ms (which is unplayable).

Feedback for Ranger and TI Team:
My 4Mbps experience for today: Kirkwood, close to PE, routing through Cape Town.

Browsing, okay, tend to be a bit slow, but not dead in the tracks. Far from snappy.

Http downloads - full speed (420 -430kB/s)
Torrents - full speed with a well seeded torrent

Default 360p, could watch up to 720p with no issues at all. 1080p did have buffering issues, but I have never streamed an 1080p video without buffering issues.

@Ranger:
Hi Ranger. The Telkom Options Centre are trying to keep me on as a customer after I cancelled my 20GB capped with TI last month. They are offering 4mbps uncapped account at the same price as the 20GB capped... however that comes with a 12-month commitment not to leave :-S. I'm in two minds... My capped experience has been clear... Afrihost, Axxess, Plugg and FNB Connect all consistently run at 3.5mbps, whereas my TI account sucked at 1.6mbps, when it actually did connect :-(. I'm wondering whether my uncapped experience is going to be the same. That said - a R170 or so saving per month for uncapped is.... attractive! The people at the Options Centre can't assist with a test account. Any chance you might be able to organize this?
... further... is there such a thing as a Business Uncapped? or are they all the same?
Rgds,
SD.

How do I cancel TI as isp - is there an online option to cancel? I'm listening to music (10210, option 1, option 5) for 10 minutes now....

You know what's crazy?
I'm on a 10Mb line, and have had to get an account from another ISP just to stream the BUILD keynote tonight.
Tisk, Telkom.

@Ranger, you never ever mention Durban. Do we not get upgrades?

I think the issue is that we don't have anything to upgrade. Ranger has said quite a few times that Durbs goes through Gauteng.

We don't have a final ETA on the transmission for the Gauteng site. We were hoping it would be in in time to bring links up this weekend, but it's not looking good at present.

(KZN goes via the Guateng site at present).

Download speed is a lot better, but game latency is very unstable. Fluctuates between 50ms and 850ms in a single Dota 2 match.

Can someone from Gauteng comment on how their experience has been with TI?
