supersport streaming seems to buffer a bit lately? any remedies available?

I have no issues when using FnbConnect.

Streaming highlights fine on a capped account on the 10Mbps line at the office. Will test other accounts (2Mbps, 4Mbps uncapped) shortly.

Regarding DOTA, there are reports on their forum from a number of different countries (SA, NZ, AUS) and providers (Afrihost, MWEB) of high latency on DOTA:

http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=83787&p=630987&viewfull=1#post630987

We also need to find a way to pay the $10 required to play (you cannot imagine how much effort this is, we might just have to bite the bullet and pay it ourselves without being able to claim it back) so we can test ourselves.

We are testing other games in the mean time.

Ranger, I have 20+ Dota 2 invites, I can give you one for free.
Just PM me an email address to send it to.

Anyone else having problem with download speeds? My NNTP dropped to 30 kb/s a while ago

Local or international server? What account speed?

My http downloads are crawling between 30-50KB/s with the odd spike to 80KB/s.

Same questions ...

I am getting line speed on local FTP downloads (on a 2Mbps uncapped account), HTTP downloads should be about the same, however last week I saw some technicians send me tests from a random server in Greece which couldn't provide more than 100kBps (I tested from an international server with loads of bandwidth), switching to a faster FTP server allowed the to get line speed.

Pretoria area on 2Mbps Uncapped -

Friday (28th) Internet seemed to breakdown and speedtest (If it loaded) gave me DL 0.05Mbps.

Saturday (29th) Seemed OK but HTTP browsing seemed very slow and P2P choking.

Sunday (30th) browsing very slow and P2P halted - Torrents were losing connection to the tracker.

Monday (1 July) P2P halted and 4 minutes to open a google search result and 15 min to download a 660KB email???/

Telkom phoned me last week and I decided to take their offer of a 4Mbps line so i should be upgraded soon, however, should the performance be the same as this........., I feel sorry for the Telkom call centre agent that gets to take my call. This service was great until early May 2013 - What did Telkom do to mess it up?

International HTTP downloads running at 40KBps. I usually get 105KBps on my 1mbps line. Might as well still be on a 386kbps line...

Hi Ranger,
It's International, I'm downloading from Uploaded.net.
I'm on a 2MB line with 2MB Uncapped.

My download speeds are still averaging 45KB/s.

More or less my situation as well. just that I'm downloading from nextgennews

It's actually 766GB, you have to divide by 1024 not 1000. Still impressive though.

what are you downloading for 800 GB (more or less)

I ran out of stuff. Best i could do this month is 300 gb (streaming gaming , everything) on 4 meg uncapped and thats cos i dont need anything.

@ranger

any tests on match making for xbox LIVE? Black ops 2 is very difficult to find local game on telkom uncapped yet afriohost account finds game almost instantly.

BTW browsing, Streaming and P2P are completely fine for me (there are slow downs for P2P during the day however browsing not affected so doesnt matter). Newcastle.

Good evening.

I am new to ADSL due to the fact that it was previously not offered in my area. I am on a Telkom Do Uncapped 1mbit package. I am in northern KZN. My line was installed on Fri (28/06) and I had no problems until Sunday night. My line ran almost flawlessly at between 90KB/s and 105KB/s.

On Sunday afternoon this all changed. FTP downloads slowed to 3KB/s and speeds started to jump all over the place. Right now I can download anti virus updates from the Microsoft site at 100KB/s but cannot get speeds of faster than 3KB/s on the official Adobe FTP. Does this mean there is a serious amount of shaping is going on? I presume if I can get 100KB/s from the Microsoft site then it is not a backbone issues. If shaping is going on to this extent is there somewhere I can find details on the hours this will take place or an further information. I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything. Anything else I can do to test the cause of these problems.

Thanks for your help

Yeah, the problems started on Sunday. If you read back you'll see that there's a lot of us complaining about the issue.

Great thanks VontD.

Here is something else I really don't understand. On the downloads page of operating systems for the RaspberryPi, the NOOBS_v1_2.zip direct HTTP download goes at a steady 105k but the next link on the page, the 2013-05-25-wheezy-raspbian.zip direct HTTP download goes at 1.2k. Basically the same protocol and both servers located in .uk but a vast difference in speed

Things have become very complicated these days.

Guess you haven't heard of Telkom's transparent cache.

That "microsoft" download is probably cached as well.

Also got a friend on Telkom now complaining how slow Netflix is for her.

So seems Telkom has international issues.

I see. Makes sense. Someone else did the hard work of getting it internationally for me already.

I guess I will learn all this stuff as I go. Thanks for the help Chevron

Guess you haven't heard of Telkom's transparent cache.

Almost all broadband providers in South Africa use a transparent cache, and almost all of them use one from the same vendor.

However, it sometimes does seem more effort than it is worth, as it makes it quite difficult to have deterministic behaviour from other components in the whole ecosystem.

I will see what I can do about the current issues, but I don't want to deploy changes to the network before 11 unless absolutely necessary.

Not sure if anything has been done but League of Legends is working now with a 230ms ping
