So, we have had reports of problems, which we would like to in estigate. I did investigations on Awesum and Gboss's accounts, but theirs seemed to be dslam congestion.

I would like to see what is happening with your account, as this should not happen. Unfortunately you haven't provided any details, and don't even seem willing to let me check ...

Hey Ranger,

Do you get my last PM? TelkomZA has said "I have put a request in, if possible to have you moved to another port, as it is possible, the main uplink could possibly be congested."

Will this fix my problem?

Right now my connection is flying :D

I wish it could stay his way forever

Mine was at full speed till about 9PM. Then it dropped back to 2Mbps.
Now its at full speed again.

Please can somebody check whats wrong with my line/account in rondebosch? Battling to even get 30kbps on a 1meg line. And oings are over 500 :(

Your account has been determined to have used unfairly, as you would have seen on the tracker.

latency should not be impacted (unless you are congesting your line now that fair usage enforcement is active).

Very very nice, service is capped again. Max speed as off today is around 45K.

Thanks Telkom but this is the end of the road for me.

Excuse me???

I sent you a pm already with the user name long ago when you asked for it :)

c'est la vie :) ... for the record, how many GBs have you moved this month?

How can I check what my actual usage is???

My internet is dog slow at the moment!

In my case 89Gb in total excluding mobile phones. My phone shows 50Mb so call it 90Gb in total for ADSL and three phones, on a 1MB line.

And for that I'm capped. Pathetic.....

Ive done around 60 for the month as there are 3 people that use the line.

My tracker is just blank anyways so its useless in my eyes.

Back to mweb i go.

Sorry telkom

and thanks for lying to a person... (unthrottled... yeah right)

**fastest way to cancel the adsl account is what?

If you go work it out:

* I was capped on 90Gb after 19 days of use
* That works out to +- 58Kb/second if you work it back to seconds
* That means about half the speed capability of this 1 meg line

So in theory Telkom has capped me for using half the lines capability. How can it be UNfair use if you pay for a 1Meg line/service and then only use half of its capabilities?I never run my downloads before 10pm and always shut them down before 6am.

So what Telkom is saying is that you must pay for a 1Meg line yet they will only allow you to use a THIRD of it i.e. 40Kb/s.

If you use anything more than 40Kb/s on a continuous basis that will mean more than 100Gb in downloads for the month and your service being throttled.

Load of bull******

I don't understand why you are capped on that low usage on a 1Mbps line.
That is not good.

I know you are replying to MKFrost but in my case I don't even download much during the day either, I run most of my downloads overnight. 120GB seems very low, I use to almost do this on my old 384kbs when I was with cybersmart from what I remember.

I agree. In general I'm happy with my 4Mb account, but the "limits" on the "uncapped" accounts are too low for my liking. I was hoping for close to double the current perceived limits across the various speed limits.

That said, I've only once gone into the orange area and that was when my daughter was at home from varsity.

Couple that with 2 X PS3 gamers, 3 smart phones, tablet, laptops and pc's. I use Linux on a laptop and a pc with frequent distro changes. I repair the occasional pc for people and a couple of torrents going.

So I would like a higher ceiling for the bandwidth.

My daughter is home again, soo...

I will say the bare minimum they should allow on a 1Mb line is 160GB a month.

If you download at full speed for 12 hours a day it will give you 160GB by month end. That is fair usage in my opinion. So on a 4Mb line they should allow 640GB and on a 10Mb line 1.6TB.

How you then use that is up to you. Whether you download 24/7 or only 12 hours a day is up to you. This whole uncapped thing is just a load of ***** used for marketing and nothing else.

To cap a 1Mb service at 90GB is a joke when considering that at full speed it can download over 300GB a month. At the very least allow half of that.

*and to think they consider themselves word class....*

Agreed. These capped, uncapped accounts are ridiculous.
I only download about 200GB a month, so I should be fine on a 4Mbps line, if the line works like it should.

I mostly stream Netflix, Hulu and download movies via newsgroups.

Whats the most you got on your 4Mb account?

I think about 230GB, but I wasn't throttled. I think I was about half way or a bit more on the usage tracker. It was the first month when the new titracker came in play and I was warned for continuous downloading.

I normally use about 160 - 180GB, so I'm well in my limits. I just would have felt better if I knew that I could download about 750GB if I needed to. If I streamed tv I would have had a tough time with the bandwidth.

If you, the market, decides that is what you want, go to the various bodies (ASA, ISPA, ICASA), get uncapped defined as 1:1 or 1:2, and be prepared for everyone to pay 2-3 times more

To cap a 1Mb service at 90GB

It is not capped, but throttled to a slower speed. And you will get significantly more than 90GB before this occurs.

is a joke when considering that at full speed it can download over 300GB a month. At the very least allow half of that.

Would you pay 50% more? It really wouldn't be profitable to provide 1:2 at the current price with the current input costs (IPC).
