I'm sorry but you have clearly missed the ball here. Its not a matter of us deciding what we want and or us approaching certain bodies to ask/demand a certain service.
Those are the bodies that determine the terminology, and assess fairness in advertising of products against said terminology
Your company launched a product and marketed it as being able and capable of doing XYZ. However, when it came to crunch time your company realised that it overestimated its own capabilities and because of that had to reign in their products and as a result started with all this fair use policies and the like.
Fair use policies were present since we first launched uncapped in September 2011.
Then advertise it as such. Do not come with all the Unlimited, Uncapped and other marketing lingo when you know that this is not the case. If your company was honest and upfront about the capabilities of the service they had on offer then there would be no problems. Problems start when a person is told one thing and then find that in reality things are different. So walk the talk, for once.
ISPA defines uncapped as 'No cap. Acceptable use policy can place limitations on user behaviour and define “abuse” criteria which can result in service restrictions. May be linked to a specific access speed.'
I don't like the way the market is at present, but *no* provider will tolerate you running your line at line speed 24x7 anywhere near this price range. MWEB will ban you for life if you do this for 3 months.
So buy our business uncapped product, or a faster uncapped product (with higher thresholds for 'service restrictions').
I should however ask you how do you expect your client to pay 100% for 50% of the service? This cuts both ways does it not? I guess not, screw the customer. They must pay 100% for a 50% service. So before asking me whether I will pay double first get your service up to 100% spec.
Your maths doesn't work out ...
If you want 1:1, get a quote for diginet or dedicated fibre, it will cost you 5-9 times more.
The ADSL access network (the wholesale network, which is out of our domain of control) is specced with a contention ratio of approximately 1:16. And we wonder why there is DSLAM congestion ...
I understand that you are only a representative of Telkom and that you have done some good work on here helping others so thanks for that. I have to however say that your reply and or the tone of it is in my opinion a clear resemblance of the attitude your company has towards its clients.
I do not represent Telkom at all, and I have never claimed to. I purely try and assist users (be it by checking technical details, be it explaining aspects, assisting with escalations of queries or faults etc.). If you want an official representative, please contact TelkomZA.
I am just explaining the reality. Just IPC bandwidth costs alone exceed the going rate for uncapped accounts by a factor of 3-5.
