Im back on 1Mbps on my 4Mb account. Sigh!:cry:

Download Speed: 1078 kbps (134.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 436 kbps (54.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 22 ms
7/22/2013 4:15:53 PM

eish...youre still lucky...MWEB recently throttled my 4mb line to 0.25mb...now THAT is bad...WITHOUT a warning or ANY indication of whats happening to my usage...

I agree. I had the same problem. I was on uncapped basic instead of premium. Since then full speed.

@Mickey
Telkom is upgrading our congested exchange tonight. They phoned me 18:00 to inform me.
Not sure how I get fullspeed now, but maybe my latency will improve now as well.

:D
PS: just remember....latency got nothing to do with your download speed...it only detects your PING speed...if youre throttled, your ping wil stay the same (latency)...but your download packets will be slow...

I prefer the sudden throttling, but would like a hard limit :p Then at least I know what to work towards not breaking.

Rather let people know what is considered abuse, and after that they are throttled. Simple. If you don't like it, find another product that offers better.

I like that allso . Thinking of going over to 2 meg line ( from 1 meg )...

I gotta agree with you there too. I prefer to be throttled after X amount than be shaped to death during business hours. I'm yet to be throttled by Ti BTW. At least if/when I do get throttled I have an idea of where the limit is.

Besides 450GB on 4MB is more than sufficient for me. And the best part is my entire package (4MB ADSL line, voice line and 4MB Uncapped data) costs less than R750 a month.

This is why I left Afrihost after the MTN move, I like to do what I want to do up to a point, instead of the ISP telling me what to do (ala Mweb/and now Afrihost).

I still trust and think that IS offers the best consumer uncapped out there as I am not home during the day and don't care for day time downloading.

The only thing going for TI is their bundled pricing - UNBEATABLE!

But.... I still can't bring myself to turning myself over to them (TI) on principle, even tho they are supposed to be a diff entity, until Telkom "free the internet" that is ;)

I'm in the IT field and I NEVER thought I'd EVER see the day that Telkom would get any sort of praise from me. My past experience has always been negative. They never showed up on time, I'd be waiting days for Telkom to rock up and install the DSL lines at new branches etc. But I gotta give praise where its due and they have really shone up as of late.

Having been with Plugg for a month I can without a doubt say that IS accounts do run very well. But day time performance is crippling, with my 2MB line (at the time) barely getting 50kbps on downloads. After 5pm my account flew at line speed. Seems from what I read in other threads its the same across all IS accounts, even OW users (preparing to be flamed).

Becoz I work 2 weeks night shift a month I need the day time speed as I'm home during that time. Ti works well in that regard.

The last company to free the web doesn't have such a good track record....

I agree with you Gboss... Diff strokes for diff folks, like I said I don't need to download during the day, and IS without fail is FULL SPEED after 5pm which is all I care about.

TI has been like that, pretty much 24/7 (which no-one is matching by the way *giving them credit*) until some mysterious limit! - and that really is the crux of the matter. With IS, there is no reason for me to deal with any "support" because I know it just works and I have built up a lot of faith in the product, but TI keep moving the goal posts and I just plain refuse to phone 10210 unless I have a line fault, because that can shorten my life big time, never mind it still goes against my moral compass :)

You mean R850?

No, he probably means R750. I'm paying a total of R534pm for Analog Line rental, Closer 2 Package, ADSL Line rental and 2MB Uncapped with Telkom. Got a discount for signing up for 12 months. I've been happy (for the most part) with TI, so I don't mind signing up for a year if it means big savings.

@ Gboss, has your problems been resolved?
What did they do?

Think I am being throttled. My downloads speeds are at about 40% of what they normally are. For the past couple of days.

How does one check if you are being officially throttled?

Thanks a million. I am on 119GB thus far this month.

Telkoms site says the following
The bandwidth consumption on your uncapped account has reached a stage whereby it is having a negative impact on the general performance of our network. In terms of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy, your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.

Your current internet usage pattern shows continuous bulk downloads over prolonged periods. This is in contravention of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy and as such your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.

Does this status get reset at the beginning of each month?

1) You're not necessarily throttled, I have the same message on TI Tracker with an orange bar at about 50% and I'm fine. Maybe your bar is 100% and red?

2) Yes :)

whole bar is red LOL. so 119GB on a 1MB line is considered taking the piss? What is the theoretical maximum that can be downloaded per day on a 1MB line?

Not sure what kind of monkeys are banging keyboards at the Telkom website department but the tracker page looks really poorly put together...

<script>
ajaxpage('portal/dsl/[email protected]&PW_field=<MY PASSWORD!!!>', 'usage');
</script>

<!-- <body onLoad="javascript:ajaxpage('portal/dsl/[email protected]&PW_field=<MY PASSWORD!!!>', 'usage');"> -->

wtf? capeunionmart.co.za?

<!-- "window.open('http://www.roseindia.net','window','width=400,height=200')" -->
wtf? roseindia.net?? copying and pasting from tutorials?

Yes, I got throttled as well close to that but not sure when it actually started, so probabaly in the 100-120GB range.

6.8665GB but you will never get that that due to protocol overheads and other issues, working on a 15% overhead more like 5.8GB.

1Mbits/second or 1024 bits/second = 128Kbytes/s = 7680KB/min = 450MB/hr = 10.5 GB/day = 316GB/month (30 days)

That is the theoretical maximum. But as said, if you take overheads off and take into account that it will never run at 100% speed 100% of the time I will venture to say around 7GB on a good line. I have done 6.5 on a good day.
