Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Okay, so I upgraded to a 4mb line and 4mb Uncapped at the beginning of the month from 2mb/2mb uncapped.
The max download speed I was able to get was around 260Kb/s, with my Afrihost free 1gb I could get between 260-300Kb/s.
I've downloaded 348gb this month and since yesterday early morning I've been throttled to 0.4mbps. Strange thing is my Afrihost download speed is 400-420Kb/s now.

Does 348gb on a 4mb uncapped line constitute abuse?

No, it shouldn't.

I've averaged between 300-350gb a month on my 2mb uncapped without getting throttled the previous few months.

Unless a significant amount was after midnight since August, you should have been throttled bedore 300GB on 2Mbps.

Also, not sure but isn't 4mb/10mb lines supposed to be throttled to 1mb?

Yes. Please PM me your username so I can check some things ....

@ Ranger so where would you then be throttled on 2mb uncapped? if you download only at night?
No, it shouldn't.

So I tried signing up via call center today but was told by TWELVE different people that I could not sign up for an ISP only account?

Is this true or the utter hogwash I felt it to be? I'm fine with my current LINE provider, why wouldn't they let me sign up for the internet package itself? (This was the Up to 4mb package for reference)

I'm guessing there's something screwy with your account, lets see what ranger discovers.
Hopefully the problem can get sorted out.

I should of come here straight away instead phoning the call center, the time I spent talking to them was a complete waste of time and it seemed like the had no real interest in helping me or trying to figure out the problem.

So you want to rent a line which is owned by telkom from an isp that is not telkom and get data on that line from Telkomsa Internet, losing out on the 25 % line rental discount from telkom? :wtf:

BTW, all twelve of those people are correct - what you want cannot be done.

Streaming Internet radio while streaming rugby.

Good times....

Please can I have some help, many thanks.

Hi I am in Durban, and have told Telkom numerous times that there is a problem at the exchange. We have replaced an alarm jack that they have constantly targeted as the issue, we've replaced it and no improvement has been had with speed and latency at night.

Here is the speedtest:

Those are some serious high pings you got there, you could be suffering from congestion.
Local pings should be 50ms or less, anymore than that and its almost certain your exchange is congested.
Which might explain why you only got 260kBps on downloads

But I could be wrong..

If you move your line back, take the 25% discount, take the 4MB uncapped then you will get a further bundle discount.
In the end you will end up paying way less than what any other ISP can provide.

Your current LINE provider is still Telkom, no matter who you paying be it Afrihost or Axxess etc. All that ISP's do is log and track the fault on your behalf. They have no extra bargaining power with Telkom than you or I or anyone else for that matter.
