I had the same problem when I first found XBMC till I fell upon the fusion installer. Its hard to explain how to set it up but here's a link to setting up fusion and how to add in add-ons. This sh@t changed my life LOL

http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/24/fusion-easy-addon-installation-for-xbmc/

PS: Try the Navi-X program add-on when yuou get it running.
PPS: I bought one of the android tv sticks and stuck it into my TV. Installed XBMC on the stick, now I just stream straight from my wireless to my TV.
Here's a link to the one that comes with a fly mouse and its priced quite low.

EDIT: No I'm not an android tv sales rep :p

I wish I had a spare PC lying around to set up XBMC on :/ My TV doesn't take sticks for some reason.

If your TV had HDMI you can use the android tv sticks because they plug into the HDMI port. Then you can use the USB port on the stick to play your movies :)
The best part is they turn your TV into a tablet

What a shocker I have this month! Telkom billed me for business uncapped instead of residential uncapped, over R3k on my account! The helpdesk says I do have a business uncapped product, but how on earth is this even possible?!

Is there someone here I can have a chat with to help me sort this out?

I would pm TelkomZA or the the guys on twitter for some help.

Does the Titracker reset on the first of the month or on the monthly date that I activated my account?

And you didn't notice this one your usage tracker, or your login, or anywhere else for that matter??

Is your line a business line?

There is nothing on the tracker that says what product you have, not even how many GB's you use, only a green bar. In the "MyPage" there is only TIN, etc. numbers for the products you had, have, etc. no mention of what exactly is activated and used. Or nothing I could see or find.
It clearly says on all my Telkom logins "RESIDENTIAL" so how on earth they managed to mess this up is beyond me.

I believe so hey...?

Will give them a call tomorrow.

I also want to ask if they can move me to an exchange that supports 4mb exchange the closest is about 3km.

The one I am currently connected to on supports 1mb.

Sorry for not having responded to issues on this thread in the past week.

Unfortunately we have a very busy schedule this month, with a lot of late-night changes, many of them aimed at fixing issues you are experiencing, or preventing them from happening in the future with other product enhancements that are in the pipeline.

We have been experiencing some capacity issues on our traffic management platform. Those were resolved for our Cape Town site with an upgrade performed on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Our Gauteng site (also serving KZN at present) didn't have as bad a problem, so it was not the priority, and we have some other network upgrades to complete this weekend. There will be maintenance on Friday night/Saturday morning, and Saturday night/Sunday morning. If all the changes we did last weekend in preparation for this change work correctly, there should be minimal impact during the changes, except possibly when we test failover.

The upgrade for the traffic management platform in our Gauteng site is planned for next week, the exact day hasn't been decided on yet. There is almost no impact to users during this upgrade, equipment is on-site, and we are finalising the last details required to get the hardware ready to go in. If all other changes go well this weekend, we may be able to do this upgrade early next week, but worst case is by next weekend.

Unfortunately the first change on the past weekend went quite badly, so we ended up with additional change windows, and there wasn't time to get to responding to PMs. Also, we're behind on a few projects, so it really has been too much work and not enough play for the past two weeks.

I would appreciate feedback on whether users going through the Cape Town site have seen an improvement since Tuesday morning. When posting, if your location isn't set, please give an idea of your location, or post a traceroute so I can identify the site you are going through.

TelkomZA / Ranger,

I'm finally aboard and have a do Uncapped 4mbps account. Now to see how it performs compared to Afrihost and MWeb :)

One question - the online client portal. There's no place where it shows you what uncapped package you have (1/2/4/10mbps), etc. Only the usage tracker, which is very minimalistic (I did read your explanation on why the product managers wanted the minimalist approach).

I added as a requirement for a project in the pipeline that uncapped users can see their product description (as capped users have been able to do for a few weeks, and at least they could see their cap before that). Unfortunately, we have a high work load at present, and no release date has been planned for this project, probably not before January (all the other release dates have too many projects already).

Any chance we can get something more closely resembling Afrihost's ClientZone, or MWeb's MyADSL?

There have been projects in the past to provide a good customer portal, but other initiatives outside our control have blocked the last one (the other projects listed a customer portal for our customers as one of their benefits/deliverables justifying their very large price tag), but are now late by a good few quarters.

Basically, what I'd want from a central client zone:

1) The ability to see what connectivity products I have (for instance, "do Uncapped 4mbps"), not just "Telkom Internet".

Capped customers see this, I don't know why it wasn't done for uncapped. I will see if we can't sneak just this portion in on a different project.

2) The ability to downgrade or upgrade these accounts to lower/higher speeds, to cancel accounts, or order additional accounts.

I believe some rules from Telkom IT don't allow us to initiate anything with a billing impact anymore. We are now fully aligned with the rest of the business, so as soon as you can order a telephone line online, you will be able to upgrade/downgrade ISP accounts. Don't hold your breath.

3) The integrated ability to change my password.

Change password we have, integrated, no.

4) Integrated usage reporting.

Integrated reporting, yes with topup (but not ideal), but nothing else.

5) Not too essential, but I guess if you guys really want to centralise all services, then add the current "My Telkom" fixed line management features here as well. At the moment, all the online management services are scattered all over the place, and many don't exist yet.

We are supposed to provide our tools on that side, but projects on our side to build the interfaces they will need when they are ready haven't been approved yet.

My only worry is (especially in terms of points 1 and 2 above), is that I'd love to do these things myself via a client portal online, rather than try to communicate my request to call centre agents who usually (I wish I was exaggerating) have no idea what you want, and often end up doing it wrong. (Case in point, it took 5 call centre agents to figure out my brand new do Uncapped 4mbps that I got yesterday isn't activated yet, that it's not actually me mistyping the password).

Log a fault with the 'report an ISP fault' link from http://www.do.co.za or by email to support at telkomsa dot net, and PM the ticket number to me or TelkomZA. We've also given access to TelkomZA to log tickets to a higher tier than the call centre agents can, so you can ask TelkomZA to log an ISP 'Billing' ticket for you.

We really would like to provide better tools, but besides the high project work load, there are many other obstacles. Once we have some of the projects delivered, we may be able to get some obstacles moved ...

TelkomZA & Ranger I would appreciate it if you could provide some feedback on this.

My torrents were always running fine 24/7. At this very moment I'm getting 0-10 KiB/s and this has become more common in the last 3-4 weeks or so.

I see others here with no issues whatsoever (I was in the same boat before) and their torrents are going like the clappers. Could you please explain to me how you guys are shaping/throttling torrent traffic, are you doing it on a per user or per dslam basis depending on user abuse or dslam congestion? It does not appear that you guys have a common policy across your network?

I'm just trying to understand what's going on.

You're in KZN, so you're going through our Gauteng site, which is still affected by utilisation on our traffic management platform, and may be affecting you.

We are upgrading this platform next week, I will provide more detail once we have exact dates.

Telkom Internet capped account - first time using torrents in a few months and I'm getting 1/10th line speed. Odd for a capped account.

There are some problems with our product definitions, which we need to have time to thrash out with our product management people. Technically this is quite easy to fix, but we need approval first, and all of us (technical people and product management people and everyone in between) have been very busy with high priority projects.

We may have time from mid November to finalise this.

Thx for the feedback Ranger.
As always, it is very welcome and informative.

In general browsing is okay for me.
Sometimes it does seem like I'm struggling on local sites?
Torrents in general wasn't great, even 00:00 - 06:00.
Streaming from Supersport was good for me today (cricket) and I watched a lot of YouTube videos (GTA V) the last couple of days and it went streamed without issues.

I know nothing about ADSL stuff so need a second opinion. I'm thinking about getting this package. Might do a little Warhammer or World of Warcraft, Skype etc This look ok guys?

Link

I'm a little concerned about the Shaped Data part for online gaming. What you guys suggest?

Some of our product definitions still use terminology from the SAIX ADSL reseller products (which we no longer use), which came in 3 flavours:
-UNSHAPED (prohibitively expensive)
-SHAPED
-LOCAL

There is only one truly UNSHAPED product available in the market, and that is the SAIX ADSL reseller one. On this product, there is absolutely no congestion, no shaping of any kind, and the most direct path is taken from the edge router to the internet.

All IPC ISPs must direct their customer's traffic from the edge router, to the ISPs closes Point of Presence (over the Telkom IPC network), where they then decide what to do with the traffic and how to route it to the internet.

So, according to the SAIX definition, none of our products are UNSHAPED. The products we previously had that were on UNSHAPED are now technically shaped, but have the highest priority.

And, all traffic we can detect as gaming traffic *also* has the same priority.

So, yes, technically it is shaped. Why? Because we need the 'shaper' to be aware of the traffic, so that the 'unshaped' traffic doesn't congest the internet link that the 'shaper' was keeping uncongested. But, it won't be shaped, the shaped traffic will be shaped.

I hope I didn't confuse too many people :-).

Our capped products do still have some protocol-based shaping (as the SAIX SHAPED product had), which we will try and address as soon as we can get all the right people in the same room to conclude a discussion started a few weeks ago.

Thx for the feedback Ranger.

Sometimes it does seem like I'm struggling on local sites?

I am aware of someone having reported a high latency between SAIX and MTN, possibly the peering link is running close to capacity, which I will follow up on tomorrow. If you do come across specific sites, please pop me a traceroute.
